I’m a guy with above average thighs who enjoys weightlifting and biking. Consequently, I’m wearing through all my pairs of workout shorts, and the liners are filled with an embarrassing amount of holes.

Any recommendations? I prefer shorts with liners so I don’t need to wear underwear underneath while I’m working out.

Thank you in advance for the recommendations!

My suggestion is to get underwear that doesn’t suck so you don’t feel the need to skip it while working out. There are no liners for workout shorts that will put up to regular harsh friction for an extended period of time that will be reasonably priced.

Under Armour Tactical Heat Gear compression undershirts.

UA Performance Tech™ Mesh Boxerjock, either the 6in or 9in to prevent chafing, don’t get the 3in version.

Both last at least 4 years for me with daily use, rotating through about two weeks worth of undershirts and boxerbriefs. Machine wash and low heat in the dryer, I don’t do anything fancy to make them last longer. I just replace the whole set in bulk once they start getting too worn. But I’ve never had holes develop and rarely have the stitching/seams come undone. Usually its the labels that start to wear off by the 4 year mark and I just figure its time to get a new set (or I feel like getting different colors).

Maybe there’s some buildup of deodorant on the undershirts after 2 years, but I just soak them in diluted rubbing alcohol and it all dissolves out.

As a fellow gym goer, please wear underwear. Go get you some of those spandex athletic shorts or something, but for the love of all that is holy (pun intended), PLEASE don’t go commando.

Totally share your concern for sanitation, the shorts I wear have a full spandex liner, plus I have a home gym. I definitely wouldn’t go commando at a public gym for mine and everyone else’s sake.

Go Ruck has a lifetime guarantee on all of their apparel. I’ve got a pair of their pants that have held up to general abuse. I don’t have their shorts, but that might be something worth looking into.

You gotta hate money to buy their stuff, though. It’s pretty pricey.

Personally I have chrome shorts for biking around and viorni (sp) for lifting and other gym stuff. Neither have liners though so my comment is pretty useless

Not useless, appreciate the input. I have a pair of vuoris too, but they are uncomfortable for lifting. For some reason, they cut into my waist and stomach while I’m squatting.

Maybe you could try those “2-in-1” shorts? Instead of a mesh liner they have solid fabric “underwear” sewn into the shorts themselves. Unless these are the ones you’re wearing right now.

I also wonder if you bought Patagonia shorts (they only have mesh liners, not full spandex) and then brought them to their repair program (check if you have their store locally). Not sure if they’d replace the liner for you, maybe ask their customer support
