I’ve put a bit of timber on but this is getting ridiculous. The only ones I’ve found that don’t shrink in the wash are graphic tees from Qwertee and the like.
Any recommendations??
I’m 2XL and use the M&S pure cotton ones in a regular fit as my basics. They do a decent job, fit well, have lasted me a couple of years and don’t break the bank.
Yeah, M+S or Next are my go-tos for a nicer, good quality t-shirt I might wear on a night out (because I dead fancy, me).
I bought a few from Next, and although they were cheap, I can’t see them lasting as long as my superdry tshirts.
I might try the M&S ones next.
The superdry T-shirts might be expensive, but when they last way longer it ends up being better and less wasteful. Still, I think there’s probably a better compromise on cheaper and still decent long lasting quality.
What temp do you wash your clothes at… do you know that most modern washing powders, tablets etc allow us to wash at lower temps? My dad had been merrily washing all his clothes at 60c for who knows how long, I went to visit and my dad being the helpful soul that he is scooped up some of my worn clothes to put in the wash… and of course shrunk them!
Obv stuff like towels or bedding should still be washed hot, but I tend to wash clothes at 40c.
All clothes in a cold wash for me, and I use powder not liquid. Never fabric softener, never tumble dried, neber on the maximum spin speed. That’s the way to minimise wear on clothing.
Not only are high temps not necessary, they’re often worse. The enymes in the detergent will denature and do absolutely nothing if heated too much; you may as well have just used hot water and no detergent at all.
neber on the maximum spin speed.
Does this make a much of a difference? I’d imagine the wash temperature and using the tumble drier are probably the biggest culprits for shrinking clothes.
I worked at Uniqlo back in 2018 and while working there I bought like 10-15 of their basic suprima t-shirts. I’m still using them daily. For a 10-15€ shirt (sometimes there are sales), I don’t see a point going for something else. Fit is pretty consistent across colors and years, light but not cheap feeling, good color options.
Quick edit: I’m in Germany, thus Euro, but they have stores in the UK too

Just checking and they do a plain quick-drying crew neck in white and grey for £9.90, although, mysteriously, the black version is £7.90.
They are aggressively pushing £10 off your first order, so if someone wanted to buy a handful it’d work out quite reasonably-priced. I might buy a few as I like a cotton-polyester mix.
Do they make tall size shirts?
Yes they do.
do they make short shirts…
I’ve had to buy new t-shirts for the opposite reason - I need a number of pretty standard plain t-shirts for work, so bought a pack of Fruit of the Loom from Amazon. I’ve had quite a few over the years and they’re a good hardy cotton t-shirt that I’ve never had issues with.
edit: do we need a “t-shirts” community to go with the “mugs” one?
I got four FotL tees a few months ago and they’re holding up better than anything I’ve had before, especially the heavy ones.
Here’s the pack I bought, the black is a little off but they’d usually be worn under something else, so it’s no big deal.
I’ve bought packs of 3 Fruit of the Loom off Amazon UK - 3 different colours, 3 different marketplace vendors.
One set is perfect - heavy soft cotton, tidy seams. One set is a little coarse. One set is like sandpaper cotton, with jabby scratchy seams around the neck.
Good price, but I suspect that none of them are genuine FOTL.
Yeah, that was my conclusion - you’d think they’d keep a lid on such things on Amazon at least but it would be like playing Whac-a-mole.
There’s a mugs one?
I was working away one time and it got extended, but I’d only packed clothes for the original couple days. I went to Primark in search of cheap shirts, boxers and tops, and I found some t shirts with American states on them that were like £3 each.
Edit: the way the title formated for me had me read just the cheap men’s shirt part hah.
If your clothes are always shrinking in the wash then you should change how you wash them. Turn the temperature down/don’t over-dry them for as long.
Don’t tumbledry, hang and air dry
Yeah I’ve been doing this but doesn’t seem to make much difference. It’s mainly in the length that they seem to lose all structure.
Odd, I buy mine from like sainsburys, Morriston etc, those plain coloured tshirts. They last forever as long as I don’t tumbledry. Could be different lifestyles though as a factor
My recommendation will be Charles Wilson on amazon, by far the best t shirts I’ve bought. It’s good quality for the price and the fit is nice. The sleeves don’t flare out like most t shirts I’ve tried(medium size). Sure, they might shrink after a wash but I like to stretch my t shirt before wearing them.
Down side is that they are out of stock quite often and production quality might change.
I have been picking up some decent ones from TK Max lately.

i got a few from next the other day as I too have added a little weight. everywhere else seems to target the anorexic male teen demographic.
Also Trespass are always having a sale of some sort, cheap and durable for hiking and such like
Next
I have loads from John Lewis. In my experience they don’t shrink or fade and last for years. https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-supima-cotton-jersey-crew-neck-t-shirt/navy/p6030384
My wife got me 10 H&M tees about 5 years ago and the black still looks black. They’re about $5 each.
H&M are about to get their arse reamed out by the EU for the millions of tons of landfill of shitty clothes they produce every year
Good. Fuck that shit.
Next Level Apparel tshirts are about $6, very comfortable, and so far (about 1 year in) are holding up pretty well.
In case you didn’t realise why the downvotes, this is UK based and we can’t buy these. I’m assuming you just didn’t realise while browsing on all
Lol, you’re right, I didn’t check whether they ship to the uk. Tell ya what, if y’all downvoters want to pay for shirts plus shipping I’ll make an order and mail them to one of you for distribution. Are we square?
