Guess I wouldn’t feel overly safe there anymore either, if I’d be LQBTQ. To say the least.

I think it serves a purpose, especially if it encourages anyone to consider doing the same when they hadn’t before considered. It that regard it is positive propaganda.

Sure, if you believe in a fantasy land where it’s an option for the average person. Canada ain’t prepaid to take in millions of refuges.

Best case, IF Canada wants to do something, they might alter policy/SoP to take in a small sub set, likely trans populations. As it stands now the vast majority will be rejected.

        “Americans” is engagement bait.

You’re entirely misrepresenting what I’ve said, I strongly doubt cishet WASPs are the ones applying for asylum, the article even references a woman applying on behalf of her trans daughter. It also states:

The data does not say why the claims were made.

So I would imagine all that’s revealed is the country of origin, and in the interests of accuracy they’ve chosen to write the headline as it is. No one is suggesting millions of refugees go to Canada, but signalling it as an option to trans Americans, and potentially those naturalised citizens that have had that threatened, is kind of important.

Edit: Inb4 Elon Musk claims asylum in Canada 🙄

Not gonna lie: I’d be considering asylum too, if I were enough of a persecuted minority that I thought Canada would be likely to grant it.
