Hi guys, a friend of fine asked if i could make him a build for his new pc, something small so he can move it around easily and not expensive, so he could have a work pc on which he could play some games (he usually play not demanding games like cs2, but he may play some heavier games from time to time) Im super out of the loop for pc’s since i build mine 6 years ago some im asking some advice. I’d tend to to go with AMD both for CPU and GPU, but im open to any advice. Thank you very much!

I always refer to this website when looking at new PC builds and general costs. It can’t filter for small form factor and if you truly want a small build that will end up costing a bit more.

With that budget I would suggest getting an APU instead of a dedicated GPU. It’ll also leave open thr option of adding a GPU later. I think the 8700G has the best graphics performance available on an AM5 socket. It’ll play CS2 on 1080p without issue
800€ and integrated gpu? Wow, do gpu’s price went that up? I had the same budget for my pc and i managed to get an RX 580, not the very best but it does the job and at least its not integrated.
Well on one hand yes, GPUs are expensive because of the AI hype. But also, iGPUs are way more powerful than they used to be. AMD supplies APUs for the PS5 and Xbox. So basically the only GPU that is a worthwhile upgrade from an iGPU is the RX 9060 XT 16GB, at around 380 euros.

The 8700G’s iGPU is roughly equivalent to an RX 6500XT dedicated GPU

What’s the goal of the pc, most fps imediatly or being able to upgrade down the line ?

Some pointers if you want to do this yourself :
- Buy reputable brand, never go for cheap no names parts
- Never cheap out on power supply and case, thoose component are supposed to stay the longest in any build and are too important to neglect
- List your needs before buying to manage your budget
- Don’t try to maximise performance reliability is king
- Amazon is sadly cheaper in most case but don’t discard physical stores
- Assembling a pc is an exercice in care, you don’t need fancy tools just take your time

Thank you very much :) i would go a bit higher with the hardware so he could have some more flexibility on the games he could play (and a bit more fps on cs2 haha) and also so the build could be a bit future proof. Do you think it could be upgraded easily in case of need? Or the case is too smal to fit gpu’s?
The case is really small to fit a proper gpu, but there are some frankstein builds with it and they can attach even high end ones.
But you need the gpu, the case, the new psu… Easily another 500€ on top. And you will loose the easy transportation.
For the ram and the HD, yeah, they are easily accessible and upgradeable.
Honestly, I think right now this is the sweet spot for the money.
