I don’t disagree that graffiti is much more than neonazi morons failing to draw swastikas. Ultimately, though, it is just a silly meme, in the vein of “New BAD old GOOD”, done by humorously contrasting a single example of a Roman bragging about exploring his sexuality with modern neonazis (who often attempt to appropriate ancient Rome whilst being immensely homophobic).

Is there a different word for when people write names, tags or cocks on walls? Because I’ve seen far more of that than anything with any artistic merit - if that’s what we’re keeping the word graffiti to describe.

Graffiti is art that is sprayed on walls.

If I spill some paint on my canvas coat, that doesn’t make it a painting either.
