There are chemicals that can make it so your blood stops reacting with oxygen but big pharma doesnt want you to take them and sometimes doctors even force people to take drugs to counteract them

I know this is a joke but it also kinda isn’t, we are all constantly dying because of oxygen we literally die of old age because our bodies kill themselves so Oxygen doesn’t kill us earlier, well that’s not entirely true it’s also because of cancer but close enough.

Please correct me if I’m wrong because I might be ridiculously wrong, but isn’t it that the oxygen is the reason we’re wilting with age like plants?

Partly yea, unbound oxygen is very excitable and is capable of causing DNA dmg! But everything damages your DNA! Light, heat, viral/bacterial infections, time, stress… Everything!

But you can limit the very first one with anti-oxidants, which is strictly not capable of doing anything else but binding unbound oxygen! Ripe bananas contain a bunch of them

We’re not the first organisms to alter the atmosphere and cause a mass extinction. The first ones were cyanobacteria and the gas they released was oxygen. They caused

a decrease in the size of the biosphere of >80%

We’re descended from the survivors that adapted to a high-oxygen environment but to this day there are many microorganisms that die if exposed to even small amounts of oxygen.

The great oxidization is what your referring to. It’s pretty impressive. It caused like 90% death to all life, and then life adapted and here we are. It rusted the shit out of the planet too.

Aren’t the fact that there are other gases that we breathe in with oxygen reason we live, like how oxygen is highly reactive so breathing pure oxygen in big quantity will cause reactions in our body and kill us, and other gases (nitrogen mostly) act as a, so to speak, barrier against those reactions.

Also, I understand that if there are bigger concentration of oxygen we could adapt and survive, but also like too much oxygen (whatever that amount may be) can also cause to not live and different form of life to exist instead

It’s worse than that! When we breath in the oxygen goes into our blood. You know what else is in that blood? Iron! It’s literally rusting our blood!
