I cancelled my Cable back when the boycott started, and most of my streaming services soon after. I use a pihole (https://pi-hole.net/) setup and watch my shows on the Global, CTV, CityTV, and CBC apps so I see no ads. I have an unlimited email package from my web host (hosthero.ca) so I can use a different pseudo-random email address for everything. I do all this because I have had my ID stolen once before and have no desire to go through that poop again, and I hate ads.
Anywho I use an AppleTV as my “SmartTV” stuff, hopefully I will be changing that to a raspberry pi this weekend but that is besides the point, when global posted the new episode of Survivor I got curious about if I should be watching it from the global app. I am sure there are ways that they see that someone has watched it but that is about it. I am thinking if I should maybe be just using Sonarr for all of my US TV shows, that way I still get to see it but I am not counted as a viewer. I am curious as to what others think.
I would suggest the 4K ONN box. It can play videos off of any exFAT formatted usb drive. I’ve tried other cheaper android boxes but they tend to fail eventually.
I subscribe to CBC Gem and Reuters despite not really using them, I just wanna support Canadian journalism.
The pi 5 can handle 4K, I have decided not to use x86 cpus. The best alternative is RISC 5, but the more available ARM cpu is still a good alternative. I have a Rock 5b sitting in my homelab that I could also use maybe? But I am thinking of turning it into a ollama box. I had originally planned to use the Rock 5b as my TV thing but I was having all kinds of difficulties with the build and I am not a fan of some of the board designs.
I subscribe to CBC Gem because I watch shows on CBC and occasionally like seeing the news.
