Moldovans voted in a high-stakes election to decide whether the country moves closer to the European Union or Russia. The defeated pro-Russian party has called for a protest against the results.

Moldova had the choice between pro-EU and pro-Russia parties
With more than 99.5% of ballots counted, the pro-EU Party of Action and Solidarity has won just over half of the votes, while the pro-Russia Patriotic Bloc came in second with 24.26%
President Maia Sandu accused Russia of ‘massive interference’ after casting her ballot
Rival Igor Dodon meanwhile claimed interference came from the West
Two Russia-friendly parties were disqualified ahead of the vote
