On piefed.social I don’t want to have much NSFW content to oversee because it’s an extra moderation burden but there is plenty of it on other instances.
If you go to https://piefed.social/auth/instance_chooser and then filter by ’NSFW content available’ you’ll see the instances that allow NSFW communities. Of those feddit.online has been around the longest and will have the deepest back catalogue but most of them will be fine for casual browsing.
Before you make an account on a new instance, go to the_instance.tld/communities then into the advanced search and switch on NSFW to check how many NSFW communities have been federated to that instance.
I think this is one of the fediverse’s weaknesses. If I host an instance why would I want to risk jail time for failing to moderate an NSFW community? Reddit would just ban the subreddit but if it’s on your local machine I feel the risks are too high.
Honestly it’s pretty empty in there too
Be the change you want to see in the world.
( . Y . )
Slightly off-topic for this post but would it be possible to get a metadata field in the instance picker for the country that the instance is hosted in?
Some of the instances say this in the text blurb, but many don’t mention it, and it’s something that is becoming increasingly important for people with all the new social media laws coming in in various countries.
Thanks.
Yes, absolutely. It’s something that I intended to include but forgot.
so are we defederated from the ones that allow nsfw? i thought when i viewed ALL that i’d everything from everywhere (yes, all at once lol)
Not defederated, no. For example, https://piefed.social/c/celebs@lemmynsfw.com works and lemmynsfw.com accounts can comment on any piefed.social communities which they wouldn’t if we were defederated.
It’s just not allowed to add NSFW communities at https://piefed.social/community/add_remote because of a checkbox I ticked in the admin area. Because they can’t be added none of the posts in them gets federated to piefed.social and they can’t appear in ALL.
hmm. that’s interesting. i’ve been around for a couple years now - first lemmy and now here, but i’m still learning how it all works. thanks.
I now have to wonder how many times you’ve been asked that question…
haha, only once https://piefed.social/post/1325871 but I expect a lot of people are shy about it and don’t ask.
