How much of the hardware and software you use must be registered, requires internet access to work, a proprietary app? You don’t actually own anything that fits in those categories and they can be taken away from you at the manufacturer’s whim.

There are a lot of apps that can be used for chat that are not on that list. ;-)

It doesn’t seem like that big of an update. Unless you need something listed in the release notes, you can stay where you are. I am running 21.3. It is good until 2026. My configuration is a bit complex and I hate spending the time to update.
