I have no hope, that the system will change in time for us or those who come after us; humans and other walks of life. But I still do things and make choices, that mitigate my impact on the planet. Not because I think I can steer us away from this path, but because it is the right thing to do. I am morally obligated to do it even if the result does not change and I take a weak solace in that fact. And of course it always matters whether we hit 3, 4, 5 or 8 degrees above pre-industrial mean to other evolutions of life.

A bit off-topic, but we are getting to the point where we really do not have accurate data to predict the future. 1,5 celcius was a political goal, not a scientific one (climate sensitivity was something closer to a 1,2 degrees) and now we facing a world where we really do not know when we are hitting those sweet feedback loops. Truly, entropy in the system is growing.

Because humans are storytellers, not scientist by nature. Better (and not necessary for plebeians) story, bigger impact. For example religions or money have diminished our freedom-loving characteristics to almost none-existence, but they sure are good concepts to knit us together to form a society.

I dream very often of being someone else. No limits on sex, sexuality or age. Not too long ago I dreamt I was a young, bisexual man with bear-like proportions, though the sexual relations were an afterthought in a highly weird story about survival.

I was merely implying that I am not in the position to verify whether these are true or not, but domestic demand for goods in China dropped significantly during and after covid. The reason for this is highly speculated. China has also been reporting bloated population numbers, which cannot be true with the historical fertily numbers.

There has been rumours, that the chinese population has declined by hundreds of millions during covid. This also could be a contributing fact to the decline of domestic demand.

This was my first thought as well. Societies have collapsed in the past, only difference now is that it is global in its nature. I can’t live thinking it is going to get better in the future when it cannot.

I have made my peace though, and enjoy the time still left of relative stability.

Jos taloustiede on lähinnä ihmispsykologiaa, niin ei ole ihme, että ihmiset valmistautuvat pahimpiin skenaarioihin. Osittain Orpon hallitus on onnistunut maalaamaan aika kurjan kuvan nykytilanteesta, mutta eipä nuo maailman tapahtumat ole luomassa kuvaa tasaisesta ja auvoisesta tulevaisuudesta. Olemme siirtyneet erimielisyyksien ja kurjistumisen aikakauteen, joka jatkunee useamman vuosikymmenen.

Olet aivan oikeassa ja harvemmalla meistä on oikeus kritisoida valintaa myydä ulkomaille, kun käsityksemme tilallisten arjesta on seitin ohut. On eri asia voivotella ja vaatia muutosta uutisten sekä haastattelujen perusteella kuin ymmärtää miltä se tilanne näyttää ja tuntuu paikan päältä. Todennäköisesti tekisin juuri saman valinnan, jos olisin heidän saappaissaan. Kukaan ei ole tullut lihatilallisten avuksi, vaikka politiikassa se välillä nousee pintaan.

En ole maajussi, mutta on sitä itsekin tullut surtua hiljeneviä kyliä ja keskittymistrendiä. Ihmisille on kuitenkin ihan saatanan vaikea myydä ajatusta, että lihasta pitää maksaa ja mielellään ostaa suoraan tilalta, jos sellainen mahdollisuus on.

Vähän ristiriitaiset tunnelmat tästä. Jonkin verran nautatilallisia tunteneena olisi hyvä heidänkin kukkaroa kasvattaa eikä ainoastaan kerryttää heille yhä suurempia investointivelkoja. Liian moni on jo väsynyt ja valtio lohtuna ongelmaan tarjoaa kriisiapua, mutta juurisyihin on ollut vaikea puuttua (lyhyesti pientuotannon kannattamattomuus, byrokratia, kustannusten nousu ja onhan noita). Tuottajat ovat ympäristövelvoitteiden ja tuotannon tehostamisen ristipaineessa. Ympäristölle parempi olisi pienet tilat, joissa harjoitetaan perinteistä laiduntamista ja jonka aiheuttamat riskit ympäristölle ovat vähäisiä. Talous vaatii valtavia laitoksia, jotka varmistavat toiminnan kannattavuuden sekä huokeamman kuluttajahinnan.

Kyllä tuo eläinten hyvinvoinnin näkökulma tässä myös saa kulmakarvat nousemaan pystyyn. Jos näitä halal-teurastettavaksi viedään ja kuljetetaan pitkiä matkoja, niin onhan tämä aivan perseestä. Naudoilla on kuitenkin ollut Suomessa paremmat oltavat kuin kanoilla taikka porsailla.
