  • Oh man…awhile back that happened to me: I complained to a mod in PM about racist posts in their sub - on my desktop account…then used the app on my smartphone because I wasn’t at home. It was different accounts because I’d forgotten my password at some point…but I didn’t actually care which account was what - I never cared about Karma and didn’t differentiate between them.

Little did I know the petty mod had given me a one-day ban for “harassment”…and both accounts got banned for “evading”. Back then Reddit admins weren’t swamped (I guess?) and the ban was overturned right away.

I think if that happened today it would have been an automatic autoban. It really feels like a set up. Why are they letting you have multiple accounts if they associate them with one person? What it feels like is Reddit given scammers tools that end up fucking over normal people.

  • I left Reddit for good a few weeks ago when I got a 3 day autoban for directly quoting Worf from Star Trek…in response to a post asking for quotes. I think it was an autoban because a couple years previous I got an auto-warning for quoting a punk song in a punk sub…appeal rejected.

I appealed the 3 day ban…but no idea if it would have been accepted because I deleted my account and the Reddit app after 2 days when I snapped out of my Reddit addiction and finally realized how enshitified it’s become.

  • I grew up in a very poor neighbourhood, then moved to a very rich one for high school, then back to a different poor one for young adulthood. I feel I can speak on this.

All the rich people I know are lazy and are constantly on vacation and play golf/whatever exclusive sport they prefer. Doesn’t matter if they’re 15 or 50…they basically all have the same life style. They will lose their minds if a peer stays at work at work or works in their home office for an extra hour or two a day as if they deserve a medal - provided the work is white collar work. They will completely disregard all the random days off and vacations they take on a whim as if they didn’t happen.

The hardest working people I know are immigrant dishwashers, hands down (just because I spent a lot of time in the restaurant industry - I’m sure there are equivalent jobs in other sectors). 6-7 days a week 10-12 hours a day, sometimes less than minimum wage, no overtime. Thankless, soul sucking, and difficult work. They will never ever complain, never ask for a raise and beg for more hours even tho additional hours have to be “off the books” and paid out of petty cash. Don’t even get tipped out like cooks. Never buy a luxury. They raise families and put kids through university. Biggest unsung sector in labour, as far as I’m concerned. Also the most exploited that allow the rich people to pretend what they do is work. If you try to advocate for them they tell you shut up and not rock the boat.

  • Me too…but we’re outliers.

SO many people who I thought were cool turned out to be morons…an alarming amount of them were radicalized in the pandemic. Even many of the people I know that think they’re devout leftists seem to feel they need to have one or more “edgy” views that cause them to caucus with radical centrists or right wingers. Like…my bi hippie friend started voting conservative because Palestine…my own lefty brother started voting conservative because of guns. Just found out a very poor ex girlfriend voted conservative because of right wing views on addiction. Then you have all the insane tankies…if you explained horshoe theory to them their heads might explode from the cognitive dissonance.
