  • Why is it so hard to believe someone has been to Ukraine? like really? I’ve also been to Poland many times and have family there. Just FYI Ukraine borders Poland. Not really difficult traveling between the two. You may have never left Russia (I’ve been there too) but plenty of people travel to other countries this is not a rare thing. I’m sorry if you have not had the opportunity to travel but would highly recommend you do so. I think it would help you a lot.

History is history and you can’t change it. Russia is the aggressor here (and in many other places, they have a pretty consistent playbook) it’s not really up for debate (though I’m sure you’ll continue to try).

  • The fact is that between February and March 2014, unmarked Russian soldiers occupied and blockaded the Simferopol International Airport, most of Ukraine’s Crimean military bases, and the Supreme Council of Crimea. The Kremlin stated that no Russian troops were active in the region, but many little green men were operating in this region while disguised as pro-Russian separatists.

After two months of denial, on 17 April 2014, Russian president Vladimir Putin confirmed that the Russian military had been operating in Ukraine.

So by Putin’s own account here, sending troops into Ukraine they of course started the war. All of which is conveniently left out of this article. Some great reporting here…

  • I’m not sure how anyone would read that article knowing anything about Ukraine and not immediately realize this article is biased and misleading. It is certainly bending the truth. I think only a stupid person would try and defend it.

P.S. I’ve personally been to Ukraine and also know people who are currently there. So I’ll take my first person account over you or you’re purposely misleading article.

  • Here’s what you need to know- consortium news in 2016, the website was listed by PropOrNot as a “Russian propaganda outlet,” a claim Consortium News strongly disputes, arguing it challenges mainstream narratives and exposes bias in media.

Article really is totally bias towards Russia and leaves out many well documented facts or any facts that would take away from the Russian narrative that Russian is the victim.

Interesting to read for the sole fact it gives you insight into what the Russian propaganda machine is pumping out.

  • Unfortunately it seems like the dev has abandoned his app. I also used Sync for reddit and was happy to pay for the Lemmy version. Money down the drain. At best it seems that there will be updates every 18 to 24 months, maybe if at all. This may have been fine on reddit but Lemmy is constantly being updated and changing. So the app is more often then not broken or missing functionality in some.way. Honest answer is to find another app and donate to another developer.

  • When connected through wireguard can you access anything on the local network?

Also sometimes if you’re on an LAN trying to vpn into itself you get weird network issues. Does this issue also happen when you’re on another network and vpning back?

Also there’s a lot of great videos on YouTube to set this up things like Lawrence systems and network Chuck.

Not exactly sure what the issue is here but gave you the up vote for visability and hopefully someone smarter then me will know.

  • Just honestly asking Im not a statistician. From a lay person looking high level this seems weird. The conclusion also does not match up with insurance prices that I’ve personally seen nor correspond with my experience.

I’m here for discussion not trying to put anyone down. Could someone just explain to me what I’m missing. No need to downvote. So if you take a non random sample of data how can you extrapolate that out so much? Does this data line up with other people’s data? What am I missing?

  • Okay a lot going on here and not really a lot of information

First thing I would check is does your motherboard have error lights? Even my computer thats 20 years old has lights that flash in patterns as booting. You use this to find out which part of the booting sequence failed, power, ram, video card, CPU etc. Find out which motherboard you have and find the owners manual. If you have SLI available it’s an expensive motherboard and most likely has this feature.

Second, double check everything is plugged into the motherboard, ram all cables etc. Something may have shaken loose?

Might be worth physically inspecting the video card. That you could boot up once makes me think this failed. Maybe a capacitor on the video cap exploded or got knocked off.

Lastly try and take the 1080 out of your girlfriends computer and see if you can boot with that. This would help narrow down issues?

One more thing check if you have an igpu. Something may have failed and the motherboard switched to on board graphics. They’ll be extra vga/dvi/HDMI ports on the back. Your lack of video could just be from having your display plugged into the wrong port. So try to hook up into any video out put there.

Also perplexity, chat gpt and Gemini can be helpful in trouble shooting.

    Godspeed

  • Docker as mentioned above is great especially if you’re going down the homelab rabbit hole. You’ll find it really useful to get familiar with for future projects.

Another alternative is to install DietPi. It’s an operating system for a raspberry pi. It has all these programs you mentioned with install scripts including docker and installing (and updating) is as easy as checking a box. Also has a pretty good community in case you run into an edge case.

  • Ah falling down the rabbit hole. If you’re only looking to transcode videos stay away from the graphics card. Look into Intel quick sync. Newer Intel cpus can transcode over a dozen 4k streams at a time using little power. However the next issue depends on what operating system you want to use, Windows, Linux, docker container or proxmox to run Plex/emby/jellyfin. They all come with their own issues/caveats to actually getting quick sync to work. However each is well documented. Learning is the fun part. I went down a similar route ended up with a nuc12pro running proxmox running a whole bunch of stuff but primarily used for Plex running in an lxc container. They are small powerful and don’t use a lot of power and importantly also well documented.
