Please tell me how to disable Data Detectors on MacOS, sometimes a number is just a numerical string and is not a Phone number; actually it it quite unusual for it to ever be a phone number. Even if it is a phone number, I would love to be able to just copy and paste it without it trying to connect to my phone and prank call some poor sucker.

12·13 days agoI was always advised that “NATO standard” was instant coffee with 2 sugars and milk.
This can be paired with the “Erase all Data” option in “FaceID and Passcode” settings to add another level of security.
Just remember to play dumb when you “accidentally” incorrectly enter your passcode 10 times in a row and to make sure you have a recent backup that you are able to access.
This reminds me of when I got Spore on Optical disc for my (brand new at the time) Intel iMac. The disc was ISO9660 with both Joliet and HFS extensions, so if you put it in Windows, it would show up natively and if you put it in a Mac, it would also be native.
After a few games in MacOSX I was disappointed with the performance so I started to dig and realised it was the Windows Binary with some sort of WINE-like translation layer. I assumed it would run better natively in Windows.
I installed Bootcamp and a stripped-down version of Windows Vista and then installed the native Windows version. It installed a Root kit that broke most of Vistas security and the game ran even worse and crashed constantly.
I don’t think that Microsoft deserves all the blame for games running like shit natively. The users who pirate games and the studios who don’t trust Windows users to not pirate games deserve the blame as well.
Microsoft (and Post-Jobs Apple) definitely do deserve a lot of blame for allowing their platforms to get so bloated with so many features that users don’t want. Copilot should have been laughed out of the boardroom and Apple Intelligence is an underperforming, overly obnoxious know-nothing know-it-all.
Just a reminder for anyone travelling to the US (or any other totalitarian regime that doesn’t respect right to privacy).
I can’t remember the combination of buttons you need to hold down on your iPhone to disable biometric unlocking and to force erase your phone.
Anyone else remember these, and know the equivalent combination for Android devices, please comment.
Keeping multiple devices is the easiest way to get by. Have a burner phone for everyday use when travelling and keep your main phone either at home, or locked and unpowered in your luggage.

1·20 days agoChina has already successfully destroyed manufacturing in most Pacific “first world” countries by undercutting us.
The fact that US, Australian, Japanese, Korean and New Zealand manufacturers were so ready to outsource to China in the first place, just to save a few cents in the dollar is how they got us.
The only workforce that can be reduced by LLMs are those that just send emails back and forth and don’t actually do any real work.
The fact that Executives and Middle-managers are also the highest paid part of the workforce, maybe it can reduce payroll after all.

The only way out of this is to completely destroy the GOP, just like we have completely destroyed the Australian Coalition last month… Only then can things be turned around.

But if I stopped buying from AliExpress, I would have to purchase the exact same thing from Amazon or eBay at 10 times the price, and if I boycott the US companies as well, I would need to buy the exact same thing at 100 times the price from Bunnings!
(Meanwhile AliExpress sellers are reselling the exact same thing that can be purchased in bulk from AliBaba at 1/10th the price)
The currently executive in the US is either completely incompetent or maliciously trying to destroy the US.
The legislature sets laws. The senate approves laws. The judiciary interprets laws.
If the legislature doesn’t like how a law is interpreted, they can change the wording to be less ambiguous, but it would still need to be approved by the senate. This new law would supersede any precedents.
The executive is there to keep the system functioning, not to create any laws itself.
