  • They came on TV every day for a year and a half telling us about Iraq’s WMD’s and we were scared and confused after 9/11.

Now there was no inciting incident, we have the internet with alternative narratives to the state lies, we have a massively depressed economy from decades of wars gutting our middle class and transferring wealth from the middle class to the elite, and they are trying to speed run there propaganda about Iran in like two weeks using the same tired lies they pushed for during Iraq.

So, in their mind it’s just like Iraq, but there is a reason this war only has about 16% support with 64% against. This war will break maga and will break the US before it breaks Iran. That’s my guess anyways.

Oh, and Iran has almost 4 times the population as Iraq did when we invaded it, has witnessed Iraq and Lybia and have been developing and importing weapons independent of the US sphere of influence for decades while Saddam was a US puppet until he wasn’t. So yeah, I don’t think it’ll go the same.

  • Having lived in China, I can say China is largely self sufficient and Chinese tariffs on American goods isn’t going to hurt the American economy as much as other aspects of a trade war such as quitting their policy to buy American debt. That said, China does import a shit ton of grain and oil (both cooking and crude), some tech stuff, some cars, and a good amount of aircraft parts, and 40 something films a year see box office releases in China. So certain industries will be hit but specifically related to tariffs and only tariffs, China losing access to the American market is worse for their economy. But by no means is it good for the American economy and tariffs aren’t the only weapon in a trade war.

Sorry to get pedantic, but it’s the internet here.

  • Trump is a clown but this tweet isn’t entirely accurate. Members of the Chinese government have been saying for weeks they are willing to meet and negotiate trade terms and it’s been Trump that has been blowing them off until now. Maybe Trump wanted a more humbled, desperate, and less proud Chinese to beg to kiss Trumps ring, but the Chinese were incensed by the hostility and basically said, we’ll talk with you but we’ll also play hardball if that’s how you want to play it *shrug.
