Dang it. Long live Crypto!
I’m running a yunohost server with a Nextcloud instance on top. I’ve got nextcloud syncing my files, of course. I use WebDav/WebCal for syncing all of my contacts and calendars across my linux and android devices.
I think around 200,000 seems pretty accurate going off of lemmyverse.net. I sorted the instances by number of users and it seems like it would add up good. The first five servers were 36k, 19k, 11k, 8k, 4k users. After that it was just a bunch of instances with less than 2k users. But that doesn’t mean we can’t get it up to 6 million :) Let’s keep on welcoming the redditers.
Wow, we only have 128,000 while mastadon has 2 million? We got a lot of ground to catch up :)
I’m self-hosting some stuff on a yunohost server but i plan to switch to start9 once they add support for clearnet.
I would be hosting more but our internet is too slow for anything else to really be effective.
Aha, never mind, I found the answer to my question above. Thanks for clarifying your point. Not sure if i agree 100%, but a viable point nevertheless.
Hey, I’m not sure why we are over analyzing Helix’s message. I’d be interested in the connections you made between covid and digital privacy. It kinda sounds like your saying lack of digital privacy led to the pandemic. I don’t think your saying that. Would you by any chance be referencing the tracking violations by the cdc? Or maybe that China’s zero covid policy and tracking? Maybe I’ve got you wrong but those are the only connections that I have made.
P.S. Sorry if you have already answered a similar question. I didn’t see it in the text thread.
Lucky.
I definitely agree. From what I understand about email security it’s more of a safety net of security right below the tight-rope. What needs to be done is we just need to build a bridge instead of making everyone use the tight-rope.
Dang, that looks like a really cool combo! Only draw back, no imessage, which is unfortunately what most people use. But still looks pretty dang cool.
I have looked at it. It looks really cool! However, it does not have the user base of signal and does not have an easy unboarding for beginners. If I’m going to switch a person to an encrypted instant messenger I would do Signal. It is by far the simplest and the most widely used. The more widely it is used the easier it is to sell it to people. For the most secure I go with Session. But I do agree that SimpleX is on to something.
I don’t know, I’ve been on their Discord channel from the early stages and they seem pretty legit. Mind you I could be wrong, we all get taken into scams every now and then. I just got into their alpha testing so I will provide some feedback on how well it works. Honestly, it’s fixing a problem that shouldn’t be there. All of these walled garden messengers can’t stand the test of time. We have to switch to something more federated like xmpp or something else. Even signal, while awesome, can’t communicate with anything else. We need some good, secure, FOSS, instant messaging protocols.
Everyone! I have a steal of a deal! I know how to get you free air. I know, I know, it sounds to good to be true, but trust me it is. Just reply to this message and I will let you in on the secret.
You could always just link the webapp to your home screen. Not idea, but it’s a pretty close experience.
If I was trying to scam you i wouldn’t exactly admit to it :)
I have been with them from the early alpha stage to present. They are almost releasing into beta. So far, no alarm bells have gone off in my head. They are very open and transparent and have answered nearly every question that is posed to them by the community. I would suggest checking out their discord server and seeing for yourself. Plus, if you join their Discord server, you will get earlier access.
P.S. I have been using it for a couple months now and it has been working. It is also working for the couple hundred other alpha testers. So, it works.
