And even that the Democrats are primarily reactionary, as the Democrats are the “face” of the left (with huge caveats about how they’re actually just a second conservative party, and not even left because they go out of their way to suppress the left). Democratic party leadership is just bad at politics and afraid to act.

But the idea that the left has abandoned the digital space is at least an incomplete assessment of the situation when billionaires are allowed to buy the town square and push whatever “algorithm” tweaks they want.

I’d argue that they’re partially right (or at least not entirely wrong) to blame the specification. If the specification makes it easy for crappy manufactures to be crappy, then the specification probably should have planned for that in a better way. And crappy manufactures being crappy is a tale as old as manufacture. Yeah I know there are cable marking requirements, but clearly nobody gives a flying fuck. The USB IF has basically all of the power in this situation, and their members collectively control a significant percentage of the planets wealth, so it’s actually their problem to solve.

The traditional “leverage” is just the standard CEO - stockholder relationship. The CEO manages the company well and the stockholders reward the CEO with payment and/or by making the stock price go up by buying more and/or not selling. IMO that basic relationship broke down a while ago, but the stock market has been unhinged for so long that it seemed to not matter.

One of those is actually two possible outcomes. There’s TSLA Tanks (the stock) and TSLA Tanks (TSLA becomes an arms dealer), and they aren’t mutually exclusive.
