The news is that it is a new change. The reason why it is being opposed is that it is needlessly restrictive on refugees which we already make as hard as possible to allow to apply already.

For example, imagine you are someone from the DR Congo and need to flee the conflict. You have family in the UK so you attempt to make your way here using refugee routes. You can only make it as far as France before having to take a boat over and get into the country illegally even before you can apply for asylum. Now even if this application is accepted, you can never become a citizen, even though you are legally living in the country.

The unfair bit of it is that you cannot apply for asylum without being in the country (except in certain circumstances) which you cannot enter without entering illegally. This is at least my novice knowledge of the way the system works at the moment.

Over in the UK, this got picked up by the mainstream papers. Maybe he is more well known over here. He is the type to often gets headlines for his outrageous comments.

The documentary is a good watch. It is scary to see how the PA members think their views are normal. e.g. saying something along the lines of “everyone thinks this…” after saying something abhorrent.

Are you nearby to it at least? The last big one in December they had the emergency warning zone a fair bit bigger than the actual red area to account for people travelling. Which does make sense considering people will commute up to 50 miles or so, plus inaccuracies from phone masts covering a large area.

I loved it. I think it is a great progression from the battle passes which personally felt far more grindy and exploitative.

I really like the detail the put in to all of the little art works and sprites, and the minigames. You can tell it has taken more time with likely less profit than the battle pass system.

My only qualm is that because I wanted to follow the story, I wanted to complete an act in one go cos otherwise I will just forget. That meant I was just hording tokens for ages and not really participated until the last week.

British Gas is not exactly a oil company - they are a energy supplier for households (electricity & gas). However he could definitely be considered evil for pushing UK energy companies to excessive profiteering.

I got interested myself and did a quick search, but it doesn’t seem like Riot have live stats unfortunately. I would expect League of Legends to have more players, but I don’t think it would be that huge, especially considering how popular Dota is in non-western countries.

I also find it funny how if you search something like “dota vs lol player count”, most of the spammy sites just compare the number you gave or even worse comparing Dota’s 1m peak concurrent per month vs League’s 150m total a month.

There also seems to be a disparity in the number of accounts that most players have per game (smurfs) making this probably not worth the time to research!

Is that daily player count concurrent or total for the day? If it is the first, I don’t think these figures are comparable.

As someone who lives in Wales and drives, cycles and walks around daily, I think this is a great policy, but poorly communicated and has been a target by populist politicians which has fed into the discontent.

Many people speed and break the limit anyway regardless of the speed limit. In my experience about 80% of cars will be sticking to 20 - either abiding by the limit or stuck behind someone keeping to it. The majority of people speeding will only speed up to ~30mph, which will be less than what they’ll be speeding if the limit was at 30 originally.

It may vary by council, but I personally can’t think of any roads near me that could do with reverting back up to 30 (that haven’t already). Some main roads will still be 20, but then there are schools and residential on these roads which doesn’t make sense to revert - but some people will still complain.

Personally I don’t think this policy will ever have national popular support. It is a policy that directly affects someone’s day to day rather than a stat which makes it a perfect candidate for people to complain about (potholes are similar). This is despite polling also saying that the vast majority support 20 outside their own house (but outside other people’s houses should be reverted?).

I am kinda sick of how much this policy is brought up. It seems like every month there is a new article critiquing the limit and it is getting quite repetitive.

Nah the BLM protests that Farage mentioned. Not too sure which specific ones he is chattin about, but the George Floyd protests would have been her in 2020.

Wasn’t she Home Secretary during these protests? If so, it sounds like she is just defending her own track record.

I wonder whether this is the reason Sunak called the election early - try and avoid the problems catching up while still in power.

Considering their progressive stance towards hiring prisoners and providing them skills, I am personally quite happy with the appointment.

Their last two Labour MPs not only were kicked out in scandal, but also ran in this election splitting the vote. It looks like the Lib Dems also got a significant vote share which has helped the Tories.

I believe most of those are mayors in their official garb.

They are funded by an organisation called Climate Organisation Fund of which is funded by someone called Aileen Getty who’s family own Getty Oil.

Whether or not they are wanting to create a false narrative is questionable. I personally don’t think so, but who knows…

Yes I agree, rejoining the EU seems to come up quite high in opinion polls when that is the sole question, but the parties that are supporting this are not.

Apart from FPTP, I reckon another factor is that people are just sick of hearing about Brexit. It has been in the news cycle continuously for years. I don’t think it is enough of an issue to be a vote winner compared to Lab/Con focusing on generically growing the economy and talking about migrants etc. I just think back to that clip of Brenda from Bristol after news of the Theresa May snap election and reckon that is where most people are at in terms of Brexit.

I think this is down to FPTP really.

I would love to vote Plaid or Green, but I would rather prevent the climate change-denying, homophobic, racist Tory from keeping his safe seat by voting Labour.

A lack of safe routes to claim asylum is a failure of the British system.
