8 sucks, the story is an incoherent mess.
My fav final fantasy is the one with Sora and mickey. I love it when mickey says “its final fantasy time” which as a child gave me chills.
I re-evaluated Final Fantasy 8 in 2025 and it’s an underrated gem that deserves your attention.

14 is literally keeping squenix alive rn. Its slop but it has good bits in its 800h runtime.
16 wouldnt fully commit to being an action game and is strictly worse for it. Its story also kinda fails to execute on its promise.

Gonna be honest, I didn’t play 8 much, the only reason I know about it is because he appears in Kingdom Hearts 1 for some weird reason. 10 year old me thought he was cool aa fuck.
I really enjoyed 6, 7, 9 and 10, 4 was ok, I hated 8 largely because it has the most bullshit magic system and thought Squall was lame. I got to the penultimate boss and wiped and never bothered to finish it.
1, 4, and 6 are pretty popular in the states, but the odd ball games like 2, 3 and 5 are left out since they didn’t get localized until the early 2000’s.
