    Animation >>>>> Live action

My first reaction is skeptical, based on how much I liked the first one. Brendan Fraser was perfectly cast in the role, but that role was “young adventurer hero”.

Twenty-six years later, there’s no way he’s believable at the role that made the original great. Will they write a more mature hero? Will he be able to pull that off. Will they model that off the way Harrison ford characters aged?

Seconded. It’s like watching Harrison Ford totter and groan through the later Indiana Jones films. I love the franchise, but the guy was tool old for the action. Hollywood hasn’t had an original thought in 20 years, and shoehorning old actors into reprisals of old roles isn’t great. Only one that was halfway decent recently was Top Gun, but even that was not much more than a ripoff of the Star Wars Trench Run.

I have never heard anyone say they don’t like The Mummy.

The people I have introduced to it have all loved it, and only two people have commented on the CG looking a little dated.

And for some it was their “oh I might be bi” moment.

10/10 movie, any time I see references to it I have to re-watch the movie.

You’re just on the wrong side of the river!

Seriously tho. Love that movie. And if someone doesn’t like them… Don’t be friends with them. That’s my rule of thumb.

The first two were great. The third one was pretty good. The last one was meh.

I’m still excited to see what direction they take this

On one hand, this is cool. On the other, can Brendan still do any action scenes at this point? I’m guessing there will be a younger cast and they are banking on them taking on the mantle for sequels. Fraser and Weisz will have supporting roles and will primarily be used to draw audiences.

The action scenes were cool but really it was the setting and humorthat made the mummy for me. So long as he can still act I’m happy

Beni: Hey, O’Connell! Looks to me like I’ve got all the horses.

Rick: Hey, Beni! Looks to me like you’re on the wrong side of the river.

You say this knowing full well that Harrison’s still shambling out Indiana Jones flicks. 🤣

late edit: also, each of them (Weisz & Fraser, not Ford) are genuinely pleasant, unpretentious heart-throbs. 🥹🥰 Hell, I’m willing to bet they both totally hang out w/ Keanu on the reg, by that merit alone.

It’s not just the action scenes but Fraser was perfectly cast and played the role well as young “swashbuckler” or whatever you want to call that trope. Does he still fit that role? Will they write the role differently?

Just because Harrison Ford could play “young swashbuckler adventurer” well past the age most of us retire, doesn’t mean anyone else can

Nice! Just this morning I was thinking, “what are some movies that 90s kids loved, that gen Z might have missed?” The Mummy was one of the first ones I thought of.

The one with Jet Li is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen in my life and certainly the worst I paid money for.

I’ve been burned too many times looking forward to sequels and revisiting franchises to work well. But here’s hoping for both their sakes and the spirit of the original that it does well. Such a good movie.

The last one, with Maria Bello, had a different tone to it. I hope, when they go back to the old cast, they can recapture a similar feel.
