    It was sucessfully politicized.

I don’t talk about it IRL because its basically radioactive, and anyone even slightly Trump leaning is going to start crudely mocking you or think you’re nuts.

Even with people who support climate activism, it’s a toss up as to whether you’re going to be talking to somebody sane or somebody that thinks planting trees will make climate change worse because decomposing organic matter releases CO2.

Of course it’s political but I think you’re responding to someone saying it shouldn’t be, we should all be on the same page here.

What no one ever addresses in these conversations is the stunning amount of money tied to fossil fuels. And I’m not just talking about Exxon’s quarterly profits. Everyone in the industry from the roustabouts to the office workers are making bank, and there are shitloads of those people. How are we to win the hearts and minds of these people by saying we intend to take their solid livelihoods?

The carbon footprint, like the ecological footprint, is an average proxy for wealth. Wealth is political.

How are we to win the hearts and minds of these people by saying we intend to take their solid livelihoods?

Yes, that is a good question. Here’s another:

How are we to win the hearts and minds of these people by lying about their responsibility in the predicament? “Oh, it’s not you, it’s just this small group of billionaires which you admire want to replace!”

You don’t work with the people who want in on the suicidal game. The optimists need to be brought into reality, that’s something to work on. But for the psychos, you work around them, you around against them, not with them.
