Chicago activists share blueprint…
This article doesn’t actually share that blueprint and from what it does say it sounds like the “blueprint” is to stand around making noise and filming things while people get arrested and not actually doing anything about people’s rights being violated as they’re beaten and shipped off to who-knows-where by masked thugs.
Yeah. It’s about headlines and clicks. Even if there was a blueprint, nobody would do anything.
I would argue that an inflatable frog suit is significantly more effective than anything Chicago has done
There have been people distributing 3d printed whistles, and they’ve come up with signals to notify people in the communities where ICE is showing up. That helps draw in the crowds of people all blowing whistles and screaming at the agents when they try to grab someone. Enough people and it creates a level of chaos and harassment that they’ve been known to get back in their cars and leave.
They can’t stop all of them, but there are videos showing it working.
It doesn’t sound radically different (like, local police patrolling the streets for ICE). But the difference I see is proactive organization at the city/state government level, helping grassroots organizations.
Ponce de León shared strategies Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration has used to push back, like lawsuits, executive orders and close collaboration with community groups.
At the online meetings Ravindran helps organize, other cities are getting everything from advice on how to fight for more legal protection funds in budgets to tweakable scheduling documents for volunteer patrols outside schools.
