Question: I have another version of this photo where I used AI to remove the obstructing branches. Would posting that here violate the no AI content sidebar rule?

Edit: Thanks for all the feedback. My initial reaction was to no post the AI modified version even though it was not explicitly against the rules and your comments confirmed that instinct was a good one.

Not a mod, but any form of generative AI editing on birds can lead to confusion when it creates or omits identifying marks. Personally, I’d rather see the branch version.

I’m not sure if it would violate a rule, but I’ll share my opinion that the tool did a poor job of removing the branches. Lots of weird blurry spots everywhere.

The original photo has great depth of field with the blurred branches in the foreground. I much prefer it!

I’m a generative AI hater and not a mod, so this is just my opinion, but if you’re wanting to post AI edits I’d prefer for it to happen exactly how you did it here: post the unedited version first, then the edited version in the comments, with disclosure that AI was used.

My initial reaction is that it looked fine, but on closer inspection you can tell that other aspects of the photo have also been changed. The wear and unevenness in the tail feathers has been smoothed over, and it seems a little confused on how to deal with the wispy feathers along the underside, near the legs. Whether that and any other changes are important is debatable, but it does take it one step further away from ‘real picture of a real bird.’ In my opinion as long as non-AI photos remain the focus of main posts and disclosure is mandatory, it shouldn’t be a problem to post AI edits in the comments.
