I wanted to like this show way more than I did. But it just didn’t scratch the itch. The main characters seemed a bit lost, like we needed more streamlining to their story to have a satisfying arc. I like the main actresses in other stuff but I don’t think they were right to play these people.

Honestly it seems like the biggest problem is that any story they make up for this time period is kneecapped by having it all end with the Sequels.a story about rebuilding the republic in the shadow of the Empire would be epic and a perfect use of these characters. But knowing it all goes boom and cloned snokes and emperors are soaking in a vat like sea monkies makes it all a bit meh.

Overall meh, I’ll tune in next year and see what happens. I just think it could be better.

I was honestly kind of hoping they would just strand everyone in that new Galaxy, find allies, and Thrawn would just decide to build his new Empire there, with the plan to some day bring it home. Start a parallel continuity on a completely new slate.

Then jump forward a few years every season until you’ve caught up in real time with where the sequels left off, and an elderly lich-like Thrawn, kept alive by the sorcery of the Night Mothers, can see his embattled-but-finally victorious and rebuilt fleet launch their long-awaited invasion of his home Galaxy. Then they could do something like the Yuuzhan Vong storyline with the sequel cast and without the stupid Yuuzhan Vong.

Well that explains why Ahsoka wasn’t around for the sequel trilogy lol

Leaves some questions about Ezra though. And as pleased as I am with what their story did and where it ended it leaves a lot to be desired from the sequel trilogy. More than it already left.

You’re going to tell me that Thrawn showed up with an undead army from another galaxy and there’s not even a mention of that in the trilogy?

I really enjoyed this show. But it just frustrates me with the sequels more than I already was.

The prequels had a great overarching story but suffered from poor dialogue and a lack of details. The story beats were there. They just needed to be fleshed out.

I’m not sure sure the sequel trilogy can be fleshed out in a way that resolves it. But I’ll certainly watch any attempts they make!

Ahsoka v Morgan round 2 was sick. I hope Ahsoka keeps the sword of Talzin and doubles down on the ronin vibe.

I think I wanted more of a hook for casual viewers. I get that Thrawn is a threat and bringing him back to the main galaxy is a game changer, but does someone who didn’t watch all the animated stuff get that?

I also wanted Baylan’s story to wrap up, because I find it sad I won’t get to see it in full now.

True. I think they’ll either recast, kill him offscreen, or put him in a book. It depends how important his story is, and how interconnected it is with the other characters. I doubt they’ll kill him off though.

So we’re rebuilding Mortis on this world? Baylan Skoll as the Father, Ahsoka (or Sabine) as the Daughter, and Shin Hottie as the Son?

Or perhaps Ahsoka will be the Father, since she’s Anakin’s apprentice? Except that she’s already kind of the Daughter…

Edit: Also, so the cargo was totally more nightsisters, right?

I can’t imagine it’s simply dead troopers for them to resurrect, because they weren’t super effective. It would explain why the planet seemed so desolate and depopulated. They all died or went into hibernation until the day the Night Mothers brought them back. For what, though? Why wouldn’t they just rule their own planet, rather than following some foreign admiral to another Galaxy? I needed more about why they seemed so eager to leave.

Ahsoka = C+. Zahn’s novel trilogy it is not. Not even close in terms of quality or narrative. Not a single ‘wow’ or ‘woah’ moment. Some ‘that’s kinda cool’ moments. It has some good lightsaber action and Ahsoka and Baylon are cool characters but the show suffers from questionable plotting and dialogue, slow pacing, underutilization of Thrawn as an antagonist and a requirement to be familiar with Rebels to understand most of it. It would have been better as a 2–3 hour movie. At least Andor S2 is yet to come. Oh and…Zombie stormtroopers? Really?!?

Yeah I was very…whelmed by this season. It was fine, although it felt like 95% set up for season 2 instead of a self-contained story with some dangling threads. I really didn’t like Thrawn, doesn’t feel at all like he did in the books or even in Rebels. I also don’t like any of the Dathomir stuff, I know Star Wars is space fantasy but that just feels like too much. We never even saw ‘normal’ Imperial officers, I wanted to see Thrawn on the bridge, not just hanging out on that pillar with the great mothers all the time.

At the same time, it had some nice moments, good music, and interesting new characters (Baylan). It’s a shame we’ve probably seen the last of him on screen.

Sabine just proved that people who aren’t Force sensitive can still learn to use it, which is pretty neat. This also means we have three competing factions to create a new Jedi Order: Luke’s orthodox approach, Ahsoka relaxing entrance requirements, and Baylan going Grey.

Unless Ray Stevenson already filmed stuff for season 2, we’ve probably seen the last of Baylan, or at least the last of him alive. I expect the Peridea plot line next season will be about tracking Baylan and figuring out what he was doing out there. Shin will probably be alone for most of that, but may join Ahsoka and Sabine near the end of the season.

I also suspect that Leia goes rogue either next season or in season 3 to form the Resistance to fight Thrawn, then keeps going to mop up other Imperial Remnant factions, such as the First Order, leaving her where we see her in the sequels.

I kind of wonder if Ahsoka’s second blade was destroyed to make choreography easier. All season, it was great when she had one lightsaber, then a bit iffy when she had both.

Way too thin for 8 episodes

    Wild prediction:

Season 2 is going to start out with the Chimaera being intercepted in hyperspace by a pod of pissed off starwhales, wrenching the hyperdrive ring. We’ll see a flashback of Ezra befriending one of the purgills and hitching a ride home, and he’ll convince the rest to help bring the Republic fleet to intercept Thrawn in the void.

Meanwhile, Baylan Skoll (RIP Ray Stevenson) will send a telepathic message to Shin Hati, and she will pick up his enigmatic mission where he left off.

    I liked the series overall.

I’m not sure how I feel about that finale though. It was a bit too predictable.

I can’t tell if they wanted it to end Ahsoka’s story there and cover everything about Baylan and Shin in the books fighting against Sabine and Ahsoka? Then are they going to use the crossover movie to kill off Ezra and Hera? I know The Ghost appeared in the sequels, but it could just be a similar freighter or maybe it’s Zeb or someone else (Carson) piloting it?
