…shit.
Call me harry potter because i got warts on my hog

Just putting this out there, but usually devs get paid based on number of downloads in these freebie deals, so downloading it for free still helps them.
So ya know, don’t download it.

IIRC Epic’s deal with devs historically has been just an upfront fee of one-year’s worth of projected sales rather than some after the fact payout, at least in general. Bigger names and games that are released onto their storefront with a free week may get different deals, and I kind of assume the stuff they do for already F2P games (giving out cosmetic or premium currency packs) may even be paid for by the devs as an ad, but at least the leaked typical deal details have been that it’s all upfront.
Still not worth getting the shitty wizard pogrom game though.
Ok interesting, had heard the other way. I know there’s some of that for xbox game pass stuff, based on play-time and whatnot.
But yeah agreed, claiming/downloading/playing can probably only be good for them in one way or another, so just don’t do it.
I don’t think you even have to download it, just having it in your library is enough. So don’t click the “add to library” button.
Yeah that’s what I mean. “Claiming” your free copy counts as a sale, in one form or another.
finally, a game about the long-lasting impact of the warts on my hog
Yeah, I can’t bring myself to contribute to the studios KPI. Free or not, downloading this will subsequently impact the “sales” positively I’m sure.
Usually I pick up the free game even if I’m not interested but not this week
Yer a mold spore, 'Arry
Oh yeah I saw a twitter rumor the other day that it was going to be a “big” one during TGA. Logged on at the end to see it was this. Immediately logged out. Not interesting in getting this shit even for free.
the last time i gave epic games any money was 2011 and it will stay that way
Fortunately their weekly free games are… well, free
not just free, if you hate epic, then remember it’s likely that epic probably pays the dev for the license to give you that game for free.
What if I told you that you could get free games any time you want, without having to install Epic?
but at what cost
