My wife has become an avid Switch gamer since we picked one up during COVID and she’s been excited for this one. It also happens to come out on her birthday, which makes this a pretty easy win for me. I’ve been showing her reviews all morning to get her hyped.

I don’t preorders as a rule but this one is sitting there ready to go for Friday. I had to cycle through a bunch of games to kick it off the home screen, so she currently thinks I just couldn’t decide what to play yesterday.

lol. Imagining cycling through so many games to kick a game out of home screen, sounds funny.

It looks great though, I should try to get my wife hyped, then I would have an excuse to buy it right away. 😀

So hyped!!! Looks like Super Mario Bros on acid and there’s nothing wrong with that. Finally a detour from the “New SMB” style and some proper 2D innovation. Really looking forward to playing while Sonic Superstars looks at me from the shelf 😄

This shit looks incredible! I almost never buy games on day 1 but I can’t resist. Hopefully my local Target will have it in stock on Friday.

Nintendo has a pretty good track record for not releasing unfinished garbage on day one. My kid pre-ordered Tears of the Kingdom and there was nothing but happiness.

I didn’t get that great of an impression from what I have seen, but surely this many reviewers can’t be all bonkers. I guess I’ll try to find time to force myself through that abnormally childish looking intro but I don’t know if it’s going to be feasible for my broke ass.

It sounds like it will be a fun game, but I worry about replay value. When I was a kid, I played the heck out of all the Mario games. It was often out of necessity because it just took so much time to learn all of the courses to be able to progress. When I was older and the NSMB series came around, not only did they just feel kind of basic and lacking in new ideas, but I was able to complete most courses on the first try, and then never have much incentive to go back. The 3ds game was probably my favorite of those, actually, because the coin collecting mechanic actually gave a reason to keep playing.

I guess we will just have to see how this one works out.

But the bigger question is, how will this be abbreviated? SMW is already taken!

Been playing it for a week. It’s got heaps of replay value. Think SMW-style alternate exits and secret zones!

Seems to me like the Wonder Seeds might make it much more replayable than NSMB because every stage will have unique variations you can engage with on top of the typical run.

Which, come to think of it, seems like it’s applying some ideas of the 3D Marios into a 2D one. Replaying stages with unique missions and gameplay twists is a staple of 3D Mario since 64.

Shout out to Super Mario Wonder! Playing 2-player games with my 7 year old son is hell. Thank you Nintendo for allowing him to play as Yoshi while my character rides around on Yoshi’s back. He can now run around like a drunken lunatic without my character having to be annoyingly rerouted via Glenda Bubble. Makes playing together a much more pleasant experience.

This game is fun! The going into the background in one of the first stages was really cool, lol. I can’t wait to see the lader stages and the drill power. 10/10.

I already played the first World on Emulator just to check it out. Man, I need to try so hard to not play it more until release.

Preordered this one late last night and made sure my switch was all updated this morning. I haven’t played a switch game in a little bit as I’ve been tackling other games in the backlog. Good or not, if it’s a 2D Mario I buy it because my wife adores them. Luckily for me, I’ve never played a bad one lol. Between this and Spider-man tomorrow…I’m probably going to be playing this one tbh.
