I saw a video about the mine thing and it could make sense to mine it since there is a smaller portion of the strait that is closer to Iran, so they could keep that section mine-free and charge tolls
They are already forcing ships to pay toll fees. All they needed to do was to strike 3 ships at the start of war and nobody had tried to pass without permission ever since. They don’t need to mine the seabed and risk random captain not listening to instructions and accidentally blowing his ship up and creating fear for friendly ships to go through.
The whole premise of Iran shooting themselves in the foot is unimaginably stupid. That’s US specialty.
