Pictures At An Exhibition is my favorite piece of all time, and The Great Gate At Kiev is such a perfect anchor for the whole series, gives me instant chills every time I hear it.
Mussorgsky’s St. John’s Eve on Bald Mountain is another favorite of mine too.

Oh no, I don’t think I ever had! It’s too bad most of them are lost, but the ones they recorded are cool as hell
Looking into it it seems like there is no way of knowing what the historical gate actually looked like. It’s kinda interesting to compare the drawing mussorgsky used to the soviet-reconstructed gate
