Going to Oregon to meet some friends for a few days. They don’t smoke at all but are curious and willing to imbibe a bit. I have previously gotten them edibles (Federally Legal Delta 9) but want to introduce them to some smoking as well if they are interested. I also want to get a little fucked up in a legal state.

What should I be looking for at the dispensary? I dry herb vape my black market flower down here, but I am not gonna try to get my vape through TSA.

Should I try to buy a cheap bong up there? Never used one, but I hate joints, they make my lungs burn and I cough more than I inhale.

Should I just stick with edibles? I also kind of want to try RSO but not sure I want to get THAT fucked up. I enjoy doing high doses by myself but I won’t have an opportunity to be alone on this trip.

Pre rolls or a disposable vape pens work really well when traveling. Could also buy a cheap bubbler as a “gift” for them since they’re small and generally really fun to smoke from.

There are a few pieces for sale at dispensaries here, but you’d get a better selection (and probably better prices) from a smoke shop.

I’d stay far away from dabs if you’re not familiar and definitely not for your friends who don’t smoke.

I personally just stick to edibles and my vape pen these days. Trying to go 100% smoke free after quitting cigarettes.

I’m not from Oregon, but all my local shops have at least a little bit of glass for sale. If you don’t find anything at the first there’ll probably be another somewhere nearby with some.

Pre rolled joints might be better than whatever home roll you’ve had, and can be quite cheap (just bought a couple for $2 each yesterday, each a gram). You could also buy some flower and a bowl, probably the cheapest option if you want to smoke loose flower.

Edibles are also a decent option, they should be good and cheap. Bought a 200 mg pack of 5mg gummies for like $5 yesterday. Just keep an eye out of sales

I am in MI though so ymmv

I have only ever tried pre-rolls from dispensaries in california. Never tried myself. Could I be smoking them wrong or do I need to burn in my lungs? Glass bowls are a little similar too.
      Do disposable vapes exist?

Depending on the area you might have limited dispensary options, the big cities in Oregon have tons of dispensaries but smaller towns usually have like 1 or none. I’d recommend going shopping in one of the cities so you have more variety to choose from.

Also I’d recommend buying a cheap silicone bong. They’re indestructible so you won’t have to be so careful with them or go through any heartbreak if a drop occurs; perfect for just focusing on the smoking and fun parts of your trip.

You might consider picking up some 1:1 flower - there is some pretty good stuff here in Oregon that’s tasty as hell but lower in THC and with some CBD for grounding. East Fork Cultivars has some really tasty strains in both raw flower and in prerolls that aren’t ridiculously expensive. Also most dispos I’ve been to have some selection of glass, silicone etc to toke from but that may vary depending on where you’re going.

Dry herbal vaporizing is easier than smoking for most non-smokers. I’d look into getting a cheap dry herbal vape personally so you and they can savor the flavor of some different strains.

Weed is pretty cheap and dispensaries are all over the place in places like Portland and Bend, so why not just go in and pick up a variety of things like a pack of gram sized (bigger joints feel smoother to me, since you have more distance from the cherry) pre-rolls and some gummies or chocolates? You can get a lot of different cannabis stuff for ~$50 in Portland.

Also make sure not to go too hard when you smoke joints. You don’t want to suck in like a straw, just gently inhale. And you really don’t need to take giant hits or hold them in forever, small shallow puffs will do you just fine. No need to optimize, the weed is strong and cheap enough that just passing around a gram taking small puffs will do you right.

Be careful with edibles for newbies too, it’s very easy for people to take too much and have a bad experience. A single ~5mg or ~10mg (for a bigger person) gummy will be a good place to start, and make sure your friends wait like an hour for it to settle in.

hey, I live in Portland, if you’re going to be here i’d recommend getting an inexpensive glass piece to leave with your friends, then try a few different strains in 1g increments.

edibles and carts are fine too, but I’m definitely more of a flower guy. I use a flower vape as well, but I’m not sure I s recommend getting a cheap one even if you can find one.

So you actually want tips for first time smokers, not non-smokers?

If you want actual tips for non-smokers, my advice is to respect their choice and shut the fuck up about trying to get them high.

Yeah first time smokers. I am not pushing any of them, they have expressed interest but are fearful of their first time so want to allow them to experiment and decide if they want to continue on their own or not.

I wish renting vapes were possible lol, there’s a lot of cheap weed available in some cities ($1-3/g) that can actually be decent so it’s easy to get a lot for cheap.

If you have the budget for a spare vaporizer that would probably be your best bet for flavor and ease on the throat. You can also get some cheap glass at a lot of places and have a little pocket bubbler with the vape (just make sure it’s 14mm female or have an adapter! I usually use a bit of silicone tube)

Edibles here are pretty cheap too sometimes, though they personally don’t hit me and they’ll all 100mg max.

Finally - I’ve flown with multiple vaporizers! I’m not sure which you have, but if you’re able to disassemble most of it or remove the batteries and keep them separated in the device. Cleaning the bowl and mouthpiece with isopropyl alcohol and getting it to its “factory” state effectively turns it into any regular old aromatherapy/tobacco vaporizer.

General rule of thumb I use is self-contained, declared, and carried on. I put any accessories (mouthpieces, all batteries, etc) and the vaporizer body disassembled and in a pelican case. I take it on carry-on, let them know the batteries are internal or removed, and then they usually open it and inspect it taking every piece out looking at it and then putting it back and I’m on my way. Hardly takes any more time than usual TSA! That said, I can’t speak to how this is for non-legal states. I assume dry herb vapes are just dry herb vapes, but ymmv and I understand not taking the risk on money and time.

yeah fair point. Mine doesn’t have a removable battery so I will check TSA’s rules. I was worried about THC residue if they have a drug dog since I am flying from an illegal state, but you are right, if I clean it well then it is nothing more than a battery powered tool to heat up plant matter. Nothing illegal about that. I guess I mostly didn’t want to worry about getting it through, but I am already planning on buying a hardcase for my stellar binoculars so I can check them so perhaps I clean it really well and just throw it in that

It’s okay if the batteries can’t be removed, as long as it’s as disassembled as you can get. Whatever you decide, good luck and have fun!

The pre-rolls with live resin are my absolute favorite. They make mini joints that will hit harder than 2 normal joints in an illegal state, but they are just a few puffs long and super clean so you don’t get the throat scratch from too much smoke.

Every single time I’m in a legal state, that is the first thing I buy when I leave the airport. I also have very much enjoyed watching my stoner friends underestimate their power and end up stoned to the boned.

If it was me I’d grab a live rosin cart with a battery built in, and some 5 or 10 mg edibles.

That way you don’t have to buy a battery, bowl, or bong. Carts are easy to use for beginners. Live rosin combined with some edibles should get you to the level you want to go to. And you can always go back and buy more if you need to.
