    August 9, 2025

    • Brush: Zenith B44 28mm Boar

    • Razor: Koraat 14 “Moarteen” 15/16" Full Hollow

    • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - I, Rich Moose (Mutton -r/Wetshaving) - Soap

    • Toner: Thayers - Cucumber - Toner

    • Aftershave: Stirling Soap Co. - I, Rich Moose - Aftershave

    • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz - Sir Irisch Moos - Eau de Cologne

3 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Today was a day where I spent my shaving time focused on technique. I’m trying to keep pressure against the skin as light as possible and vary angle enough to always cut beard hair at the most efficient angle. This is allowing me to do a 3-pass shave that is closer than my normal 2-pass shave and even more comfortable.

    August 9th, 2025: Personna

    • Brush: L’Occitane Plisson Synthetic
    • Razor: Personna BBS-0
    • Blade: Personna P74 (101)
    • Lather: Fanzine Saponifications - Test… Test… 123 - Soap
    • Post Shave: Aqua Velva - Musk - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Dove - Men+Care Ultra-Hydra - Cream

Maybe not the best feeling shave, but nice and close. Either the fact that the blade has 100 uses, or maybe it’s just a bad razor pairing… Who knows!

I never understood how people can get away with so many shaves on a DE blade! My facial hair is like the tail of a black pig, like bristles. Maybe that’s why. I have a 2 day stubble and my chin feels like I could use it to sand down wood. I understand preshave and lather can extend the life of the blade but 100 is crazy. Do you strop the DE blade?

I’m as surprised as you are. They usually last me the normal amount, 3-10.

Personna 74 blades are vintage and sell for over $2 each because they work great and last a long time. Still, 100 is pretty obviously pushing it even though it still works. At $2+ each, the price per shave is still pretty high even if you can get 100 shaves from it. It’s really just the novelty of something fun to try.

        As for stropping, nope.

Will I use it again? Probably! But in a different razor.

Interesting to hear about the vintage blade and the cost per shave. Kind of reminds me of vintage dip pen nibs. They also wear out and the vintage ones can be much more expensive than new ones.
