John oliver did a segment about blackmailing a few republican senators. His show is deeply anti-corruption and the writers are as terminally online as I am.

Yes, he has quite some good videos that critic the current system but he is by no means on the revolutionary left

John Oliver is doing a hell of a lot more to help than internet self-styled “revolutionary leftists” are.

I don’t disagree on that. He has quite an audience and therefore influence and budget to do stuff and he does great stuff. Many Social Democrats can learn from him. I don’t criticize him but at the end of the day he’s a Left Liberal which is my favorite kind of liberal. But he won’t fundamentally change the system.

I have a different perspective on him since I live in Europe. Many things he wants are no brainers for me (like universal healthcare, how is that not normal in a rich country). Still I live in a liberal, capitalist democracy just like the US, just degrees better.

He doesn’t seem like a total shitlib, unlike the other three. He seems like the perfect guy to make libs think a bit farther than they otherwise would, and I can’t exactly fault him for that.

Vaush, a leftist streamer. He’s very direct and sometimes abrasive, so he’s often in the centre of leftist online drama.

He uses slurs, does harassment campaigns against leftist people of color and is overall a giant chump that is far more of a reactionary than any leftist. He’s the “leftist” YouTuber for people who never had their Ben Shapiro/Sargon phase and don’t understand what’s wrong with that style of content.

Doesn’t know shit about theory or what he actually means by socialism, and has all this in his history. Vaush is a reactionary sex pest that deserves no quarter in this community.

Again you’re going too far, you can criticize someone without acting like they’ve never read anything about socialism and is sexually abusive to anyone he meets.

If you actually look up the context to most of this stuff, which you forced me to do, it’s really not as yikesy as you would think.

I don’t think stream clips that are cut to show the opposite of the opinion he was expressing are helpful, he’s done plenty of actual bad shit like sexual harassment and saying slurs that we can criticize him for.

Taking someone saying, “you can come up with a hypothetical situation where [bad thing] would result in more good than harm, but it’s still bad because of x, y, and z reasons.” And cutting it to them saying “[bad thing] would result in more good than harm” just gives people ground to defend him.

does harassment campaigns against leftist people of color

Is this about him calling out Dr. Flowers for not being willing to denounce ethnic cleansing and getting back-up from actual land back activists for that.

Wait a second… this should be it.

What. It’s merely one of the bigger drama I’m aware of, if you don’t want people to guess then don’t talk in riddles are we in kindergarten here.

I don’t think Vaush has particular beef with F.D. short of F.D. uncritically backing Flowers. Point-wise disagreement but I do see Vaush mentioning F.D. in a neutral to positive light quite regularly.

Also speaking about F.D., his “debate bro critical takedown” video was puerile, churlish, and definitely one-sided.

                “Don’t talk in riddles”

                “Churlish”

God you’re so far up your own ass defending some reactionary streamer that is literally just Sargon of Akkad for libs. Manage to type 3 sentences that say nothing. Vaush has a toxic ass fanbase that he sicks on people. When Chapo fans do that shit, we defederate their instance. But when a racist white sex pest lib does it, we have people defending him. What a joke. Those are two links btw

Ben Shapiro amd Vaush are actually best friends. They havr been photographed together. Vaush also oddly gets along suspiciously well with Tim Pool. I mean really, really well. You wouldn’t want a guy like that running your bolshevik revolution.

      I wouldn’t say “no reason”.

I’m not gonna do a whole Vaush teardown here, but it’s amazing how he always seems to align himself against a lot of the other leftist YouTubers I have watched and respected for years.

His obsessive need to tout his “rightness” on all matters is extremely abrasive and off-putting. He likes to cite diversity of tactics as a reason for engaging in debate the way he does, but then also doesn’t respect anyone that can’t debate their position. I’ve read a lot of philosophy and political commentary over the years, I know what I believe, but if you put me up against him I’d crumble on the spot. I couldn’t debate to save my life, it’s a particular skill. Watching him angrily yell at other leftists is not furthering the points he thinks it is.

Being able to win a debate doesn’t make you right, and losing one doesn’t make you wrong. He’s just another pig in the mud.

The comments here is basically the weirdest conversation I’ve seen about him, basically everyone either defending or criticising him is just getting upvoted and not downvoted.
