As a 1080p 21’ monitor user, when I got my first Mac laptop seeing it’s HiDPI sharp text I was instantly hooked. Thing is, I still need to do my work on a PC. So I started my search for a higher resolution than usual monitor.

Recently, Dell dropped s2725qs which is a steal at 300 euros. It’s 4k 27 inch 120hz and 99% SRGB. I set it at 150% scale on KDE Plasma. It works well. Compared to Cinnamon where text was a bit fuzzy at 150% (fractional scaling duh…). Optimal scenario would be 5k so you can use 200%, hence no fractional scaling, but you can’t complain at this budget. My eyes are really happy now. I love it. Speakers are surprisingly decent. 120hz is very nice addition, actions like scrolling or playing a game make it so enjoyable.

I know this is technically not a HiDPI monitor, since they start usually at 200+dpi. This Dell is 161dpi, but works for me.

If you have any questions, let me know!

In my experience, yeah. Searching for 11" returned inches and 11’ returned feet. It’s probably regional, though

Usually a single ’ means inches, a double means feet, from my experience. That said, monitors are usually referenced in inches in the USA but also in inches alongside cm in Australia.

Its literally the opposite. 5’9" is how I would express height in imperial, for example. Also, there may be some outliers, but monitors are measured in inches globally.

How great would a 9m diagonal monitor be tho.

Such a crick in the neck. Have to hike to scroll.

I no longer do, but I had a projector with a(n IIRC) 110" screen. That was nice. It was for the kind of viewing you do from the couch, though, not up close like most monitors.

I have one of those too. Great for a small apartment with limited space. Pull down screen. Can recommend.

I have the S2725QE with the KVM switch and 27’ is just so comfy as an all-rounder. It’s also the lowest size where you can reasonably buy 4K from a mainstream manufacturer I think. Wish Samsung came out with the new-gen IPS Black (as Dell does with the S2725 line) finally since they own the technology, so I could avoid Dell, but eh.

Yeah, these monitors seem only for mac users but not entirely. The extra pixel density helps a lot with text in general. 24 inch 4k used to be a thing, which is optimal for 1080p scaled. 1080p is too cramped for my workflow. 5K27 inch seems interesting though…

      Edit: grammar

I want to someday switch to a 4k UW, but my current 1440p monitors are still so good that they don’t feel “outdated” yet. Coming up on 10 years with one of them! 1440p, 165hz, IPS. It’s been bombproof. And from Acer, of all companies.

I have a 28 inch 4k monitor specifically for my ps5, since i prefer 1440p ultrawide on the pc side, and the pixel density is definitely nice. For shits and giggles i tried to look as closely as possible at the screen and couldn’t spot the individual pixels. Something i also like about it is that even games that don’t run at native res still look like they are native when the ps5 upscales it. Either the upscaling is really good, or maybe it’s just not noticable because of the smaller screen size. Either way it looks really good.
