May I ask where are we currently at in assigning users from other FV instances as community mods across PieFed instances?
-
Is there in fact a PieFed changelog & ‘future feature’ sheet somewhere, such that I don’t have to bother anyone in future over simple stuff like the above?
-
So far I’ve been uploading lead-post images at about 400k or less (WEBP format), with the understanding that they should last relatively indefinitely at PieFed.Social. For example, unlike much larger images uploaded to PF meme communities and the like, in which I understand that they’ll tend to be removed across a yearly basis or whatnot. Please correct where I’m wrong?

I really appreciate the “Alt Text” field for visually-bothered people, especially as a visually-bothered person, myself. But I’m curious how much it’s been used in practice, so far. This stems from the fact that some of the themes & images I upload can take some real work when describing things down to a ‘T’ …unfortunately taking away from my limited energy to create the body of the dang ol’ post. Not trying to whine, here-- moreso, just curious how best to spend my focus & energies upon this stuff.

I’m still pretty much ‘all-thumbs’ with our new instance, PieFed, but I’m learning, I’m learning… TBC, it saved the day for us around a month ago, when Lemm.ee was shutting down, and we were in danger of losing all the nice content at our Euro comics community. So thank you Rimu, thank you! SO THEN, here’s the crucial question-- um, what kind of pie (or pi) do you prefer…?
(the above is cherry)
Community mods - you can add mods from other instances to a community now. I think that was done in v1.1, the current version.
PieFed changelog - it’s a bit scattered.
- FailBetter has pointed you to the 2025 roadmap which is very general and high level.
- I do monthly-ish updates in /c/piefed_meta on what’s happened and that sometimes includes a preview of what’s to come. See https://piefed.social/c/piefed_meta?flair=Monthly
- In Codeberg I try to prioritise the issue queue into ‘Projects’ at https://codeberg.org/rimu/pyfedi/projects. At https://codeberg.org/rimu/pyfedi/projects/19472 you can see we’re halfway through v1.2 and if you scroll down the Todo column you’ll see what still needs to be done and in the Done column is completed work (but unreleased, so probably only https://crust.piefed.social/ is running it).
- Come hang out at https://chat.piefed.social/, we’re always bouncing ideas around and sharing in-progress work there.
Large images - yes, that’s right. There is no post expiry on local communities. All images you upload will be shrunk down to a maximum of 2000 x 2000 px so don’t concern yourself too much with pre-resizing although I appreciate the effort.
Alt-text - it’s really up to you. The threadiverse doens’t have the same strictness about alt-text that Mastodon has because for a long time Lemmy didn’t have the option to include it.
Pies - see !pies@piefed.social
Thank you! 🥧
Okay, now working on #2…
In Lemmy, we used to be able to go to a candidate’s message, post, or profile to add them as mods (via right-click drop-down options). But so far I’m not seeing such options. When I googled the issue, there was a response which seemed to imply that co-mods can be added at the admin level, but of course I’m just a community founder-level mod.
If it helps, I’d specifically like to add as a co-mod nacktmull@lemmy.world to my community piefed.social/c/eurographicnovels. A sample post of his would be: https://piefed.social/post/1012551.
Any instruction is appreciated.
@crust.piefed.social
Have a look around inside the community settings.
https://i.imgur.com/WiRky0I.jpegI’m guessing around right there should be an ‘add mod’ button or something like that?
Blaze was right. When we moved the community to piefed.social I forgot to make you the owner. It’s fixed now, please try again.
Seems to have worked. :D
Just waiting for my co-mod to report in, but unless there’s some crazy hitch, I do believe we’re in business. ^^
Thank you so much, gentlemen, and please let me know if there’s a Patreon or counterpart? Merci beaucoup.

Happy to help!
Great!
There most certainly is - https://piefed.social/donate
You’re probably not the community owner as that thing got updated after the migration of your community.
@rimu@piefed.social can probably help with that
I can only kinda help with #2 roadmap:
