Not to mention it’s pretty fucking arrogant (and dumb) to equate something you want someone to do with something they need to do to survive. IMO anyone who thinks like that should be considered too stupid for authority.
I forgot to eat lunch today.
Not “oh I’m not hungry, I’ll skip it.”
Straight up forgot until I got home from errands.
Why does my head hurt so bad, oh right
Yup. This happens all too commonly.
No hunger… No hunger… No hunger… Stomach implodes (usually after the work canteen is closed, good luck with the rest of your work day)
My wife has to remind me often to eat food because I just forget.
Ironically just started taking Adderall for ADHD and a common side effect is that it kills your appetite and people forget to eat.
Some people I know have found it helpful to treat their medication as effectively having the requirement of “take with or after food” because of this problem. If you find that you keep slipping up and forgetting, this might be a strategy to try.
Alternatively, if you’re someone who benefits from setting alarms, you could try using that as a safety net. For example, If I took my medication and started my day at 8am, I’d probably set my alarm for 4pm — much later than that, and I’d be at risk of headaches or fatigue. The ideal time gap will probably vary person to person though.
Apologies for the unsolicited advice when you were likely just trying to relate to others. In any case, hard relate.
These are great tips. I generally don’t take long term medication other than allergy pills, which don’t have side effects like this and I’m very new to Adderall, so this is very helpful.
I always have an alarm set to take my evening meds. I will snooze the alarm until I finally take them.
Too many times I have shut off the alarm thinking I will take them soon and didn’t. That ruins my sleep and makes the next day weird until I realize what happened.
I had to stop methylphenidate as I forget to eat or don’t have an appetite at the best of times and they just wrecked it even more, not to mention sweating profusely whilst sat at my desk.
I have found more structure in doing lots of physical activities outside of work so I’m tired at night. Now I do procrastinate if it’s a rest day and I want to play games but just end up scrolling YouTube instead.
Forget to eat? No. I was a snacker. Especially when I was upset or bored.
Forget to do homework? All the time, but I was a sneaky bitch. If it was a written assignment I would do it the night before it needed to be delivered and usually I’d do okay. If it was reading assignments I would straight up not read them and then skim it in class while the teacher started doing asking rounds. Maybe they knew what i was doing or maybe I fooled them, but I almost never got a question wrong when asked in class and I had a reputation for being an okay to good student.
I don’t recommend this tactic, though. It was one of many coping mechanisms to get through life before I became aware that the issues I had been facing for most of my life were pretty much one to one ADHD symptoms. I just didn’t know any of this until my mid 30s. Also not diagnosed yet.
Okay but like, did anybody else just not do homework at home even if they remembered? I always had a half hour bus ride to school and doing the homework during that was always way more viable, because I could talk to my friends while writing and the background noise of a bus full of screaming kids was somehow very productive
Sometimes I catch myself not breathing
Mood.
I was once super shocked, when a class mate explained me that he usually doesn’t forget the assignments and only uses that phrase as an excuse because he didn’t want to do them. I always forgot them, every single time

Plus on the eating my appetite is shit and my colleagues think it’s crazy that I start work at 08:00 and go until 14:00 for my lunch then only have 15:00-16:30 left to work. I just love a short afternoon.
I know a quite a few people on stimulant type medications who basically need to treat it as a medication that you take with or after food, precisely because of the risk you describe
Saw this on front page (Top-Day)
Don’t think I have ADHD, but I can relate, I get depressed AF and just continue lying in bed and start at the slab of glass (i mean phone lol) that gives me fake chemicals making me “happy” that makes my brian more addicted for these fake chemicals. Eating takes too much energy, I’m tired, I need to sleep to get energy. It’s like having the stardew valley energy bar maxing at 5 actions a day, then comes exhaustion, and everyday starts at halfway.
That’s one of the reasons why I just cannot do PC gaming, don’t wanna sit in a chair in front of a PC, handhelds are awesome for escapism.
Mental health can be rough mate. Don’t forget !mentalhealth@lemmy.world are always there if you need us
I’m diagnosed bipolar but realized through memes I have ADHD.
You can have more than one.
Me with ADHD: I never forgot the assignments I just kept pushing them until later and suddenly I’m on the way to school trying to copy off a friend cause I pushed it too far.
