The EU should have included the service sector in the discussions about tariffs right from the beginning, but at least in public they didn’t. Total value of EU-US trade in services for 2024 was at 817bn Euros and the value of trade in goods at 867bn Euros (according to Eurostat). And the US surplus in trade in services was at 148bn Euros, three quarters of the US deficit in trade in goods of 197.4bn Euros, and the service sector is supposedly expanding in the future.
That’s an old argument. Why was not every news outlet insisting on an answer when the negotiations were happening?
