I am asking for 2 main reasons.
- I can’t even think of any way that a recent thread can get this giant amount of comments.
- I have a concern here about how Lemmy can fight bot accounts. Is there is any plan or way for that or is Lemmy defenseless against bots?
More importantly, is Lemmy. World admins/mods investigating or are aware of this?
As you can see (I think) it was a single person spamming replies and got banned or something. The post appears to have 76 comments now
Thank you, I have been informed about that.
The account was already banned 10 days ago, if you look at https://lemmy.world/u/NoMoreTrds@toast.ooo you’ll see it’s gone with no content remaining.
Looking at the account on toast.ooo, https://toast.ooo/u/NoMoreTrds, it seems that the home instance ban may not have removed all content, that’s something @grant@toast.ooo should be able to fix by banning the user again with content removal selected.
Additionally, the bans/removals don’t seem to have properly federated to reddthat.com as seen on https://reddthat.com/u/NoMoreTrds@toast.ooo. This should either get fixed once the user gets properly banned from toast.ooo or can be fixed by a ban from reddthat.com e.g. by @ticoombs@reddthat.com, @example@reddthat.com or @Nankeru@reddthat.com.
It’s been sorted on our side! Thanks for the pings
Thank you for your detailed reply, I have been informed about that.
I’m guessing someone’s bot glitched. A quick scroll down the thread and I saw this removed comment with 2,380 replies under it.
When I expanded the replies, there was a single reply that itself had been replied to thousands of times and virtually all those replies were from the same user, NoMoreTrds.
That does seem like it has to be a bot glitch doesn’t it? I have to admit that I did chuckle briefly at the realization that user a9cx34udP4ZZ0 must have had a major WTF moment when they opened Lemmy at some point and saw that they had over 2,000 messages in their inbox.
iirc it’s not a glitch, it’s someone going through a difficult time who needs a hobby
That’s just… wow.
How would they not be aware when they clearly banned them already?
And how did you not realize it’s one automated bot that made thousands of comments in one thread?
