Wikipedia used to be the go-to byword for “unreliable source”. Now it’s least unreliable source that Google’s “AI Overview” section or ChatGPT ever cites.

Honestly a static page that’s literally just text, a few hyperlinks, and a few lines to prettify is like, peak design. No bullshit. A 9 year old could design the site and that’s a complement.

You can run this site on a mobile phone from 2002 and it would run perfectly.

I can use my TUI based browser to use the site and have the same experience as every other user.

They’ve achieved a lightweight, ultra-compatible, informative site with just enough eye candy (those lines) to make the site feel at least as engaging as a newspaper.

This is brilliant, 10/10 would hire that web dev.

Edit: Single line -> lines, idk what happened my eyes shit the bed or something

However, I have two thoughts regarding your personal expenditures that can save you real money. I’m suggesting that you call on the services of two subsidiaries of Berkshire: GEICO and Borsheim’s.

I estimate that about 40% of all auto drivers in the country can save money by insuring with GEICO. The figure is not 100% because insurers differ in their underwriting judgments, with some favoring drivers who live in certain geographical areas and work in certain occupations more than GEICO does.

This is the least bullshit I’ve ever seen in an advertisement. Acknowledges that it’s not cheaper for everyone, tells you to compare it to whatever you’re currently using.

Almost makes you want to hype a billionaire. Almost.

That can’t be very trustworthy, it’s a png! But then if it’s inaccurate does that mean png’s ARE trustworthy? But then if that’s the case then this is accurate in saying pngs aren’t trustworthy, but that would mean that it claiming pngs are inaccurate would be inaccurate itself which would mean…

I just remember it making a joke about if you find an old self-hosted webpage that’s just text on a background with no ads, no css, etc. it’s a very reliable source of information.

I was surprised to see Shein take off the way it did. The first and only time I ever visited that site, I thought, “For sure this has to be a scam.” The layout and design set off alarm bells in my head, like sites from earlier internet days that were guaranteed to give your computer a virus.

It was wild to find out that so many people legit shop there. But I guess I’m showing my age.

I remember when a payload of 10kb was too much and a one second loading time was unacceptable.

Saas seems to have increased that to 30mb and 10 seconds. Amazing progress.

This is so true, whenever a see something that’s obviously never been touched by the design department and is mostly just text I feel safe, secure and trust it by default.

Anything with flashy graphics is doubt before they prove themselves trustworthy.

nah, that all lives in short form video these days.

it’s the perfect format for it. just long enough to say something crazy, not long enough for you to ask questions about it.

that and social media. take this website for example. lemmy.ml and lemmygrad both have some veeeeery interesting ideas about the history of certain authoritarian governments.
