I took a Chinese history course in college since US high school does a piss poor job of teaching anything not western-centric. I can recall at least a half dozen times I was completly shocked by a death toll from a war/rebellion, or just by the sheer madness of the situation.

I’ve read a couple of the essays. On top of stuff like fawning over Stalin randomly and portraying everyone asking him questions in interviews or whatever as morons, they didn’t even answer the questions raised in their premise until the conclusion, and when they finally did, the answers were just completely unsatisfactory. Basically a waste of half an hour or whatever.
