https://freelinuxpcgames.com/ the website doesn’t look malicious but would like if anyone has proof otherwise I know there’s torminatorr, but I would like some direct download websites for Linux since I can’t seed while pirating because my ISP has limited bandwidth of 1 TB and my fascist country Iran has $300 minimum wage and I have better ways to use that than seeding, but I don’t like leeching EDIT: seems the website is malicious I guess I’m forced to leech or use proton with steamrip games

I’ve already tried some games like Half Life, Portal and am currently playing Hollow Knight. Running these game (without sudo of course) doesn’t cause any network activity. Website seems safe.

The domain name is a red flag in itself, but looking through steam underground I did find someone with plenty of comments under their belt saying how they got files for some game they shared from that site and 0 mentions of it being malware, so it’s probably okay.

That being said, I’d personally recommend just using bottles for piracy, don’t even bother with native linux ports given how they’re usually worse than windows versions running through DXVK/Vulkan (except maybe Factorio given it’s Linux unique optimizations) using Bottles or something for added security - it’s safer to download them too given how many trustworthy repackers package them.

I would say this website is very suspicious. If you download anything, try to find the same game from different sources and do a binary comparison if the game binary code is the same.

Website is totally fine as a page listing native games, but you should avoid downloading binaries from unknown sources.

    Why? Example:

World of Goo 2 Is not a “free” game. Suggesting to download the game from torrenta is very sus. At least it is a pirated copy, unless this game have some hidden git repo where you can compile the game for free for yourself and it it used. At worse it is a infected copy with some virus/backdor/data stealer.

For linux games see jc141. For the most part if the game has a native port it will be marked as native in the title. If not, it’ll be emulated

While not full proof, but you can always sandbox it with firejail or bubblewrap.

But make sure to read the documentation thoroughly.

For your second point, its not at all uncommon for previously-legit sites to go malicious. Age alone means nothing, nor does reputation after a few years.
