There’s a significant percentage of preppers who want doomsday to come, because they think they will get to be a leader & have an “I told you so” moment, instead of the community seizing the spoils of their preparation.
And most preppers prepped for the wrong doomsday. Many got screwed during covid because they only prepped for war. It would also be shit if you prepped your entire life, spent thousands on it, then it to never happen. And most preppers think they prepped properly, but they lack the intelligence and/or skills to actually use everything they have or they forgot crucial components.
I have to say, i was brexit prepping for a while and when covid hit it was a little satisfying sitting there with my well stocked pantry and decent stocks of toilet roll while other people were queueing out of the supermarkets
I had most of what I needed to survive but I raced out to buy rum, mixer, and cheap red wine. I spent a month getting wine drunk and learning to appreciate Rihanna.
Fair, but that’s not doomsday prepping. I also have a well stocked pantry in case the payment system gets hacked and shops can’t open, or something similar. That’s always smart, to prepare for at least a week food wise. But that’s different than hoarding war meals, weapons, combat gear, water purification systems, diesel generator and loads of fuel, etc. in your backyard bunker.
Same with me. But for that they invented tire irons and baseball bats. Tasers work nicely too. As a hacker you can do damage to them as well, financially for example. There are more ways to hurt them. If can’t pack a punch like me, think outside the box, be creative.
I mean, I know how to shoot and own a firearm. But I also work in IT and I have access to a lot of things that could hinder the small-time local facists in my area if I started fucking with shit.
Using a gun helps the fascists to justify their violence. Look at the past political gun violence incidents. Even though the gunmen were right wing, they twisted it to them being left to justify unconstitutional acts against political opponents, media, minority groups and democrats.
Doing IT related stuff in the shadows is the better option imo.
Do you have that many enemies that you need a gun to protect yourself? How often are people invading your home? Did you know that statistically you’re more likely to use your gun on yourself when you feel shit, which we all do sometimes, or shoot a loved one by mistake, than having to use it against home invaders? Where do you keep it? Must be easy to grab, in case someone invades your home. Easy access, for you but also anyone else. Like a kid for example. Yours or a visiting kid, a cousin for example. Or is it in a safe? “Hold on you home invader, let me grab my gun! Wait, what was my safe combination again? Let me think… Yo, why don’t you grab a coffee or something, I’ll get right back at you as soon as I have my gun.” Do you bring your gun to the toilet and shower? In case they invade while having a shit. Or do you also have a toilet gun? By the way, when you need a gun for home invaders… Are they out to kill you? Because if they are burglers, all they want is your TV. Is it worth killing them for that? Isn’t that a bit excessive? Do you live in Johannesburg South Afrika, or Somalia or something, that you have to worry about people coming into your home wanting to kill you?
