That is a terrible thing to experience. I hope Greta will be ok after this.
They dragged little Greta (Thunberg) by her hair in front of our eyes, beat her, and forced her to kiss the Israeli flag. They did everything imaginable to her as a warning to others.
She’s still a little kid. They made her suffer.
She’s 22. Young? Sure. Little kid? No.
That’s your takeaway from this article?
You’re not incorrect, but I don’t feel like this is an appropriate place to be criticizing someone’s statements about brutality.
Criticizing the source is justified IMO. If they frame something easily verifieable like Thunberg’s age like this, it severely limits their credibility right out of the gate. I don’t doubt the actual contents of the statement, but embellishing the story like this hurts only their own cause and freely hands an angle of attack to their enemies.
That statement was made by Ersin Celik, Turkish activist and Sumud Flotilla participant, not The Canary. All they did was quote the source in full.
Ersin Celik was born in 1982 making him about 43 (depending on month born).
I can fully understand why he would view a small 22 year old as a little kid. She’s half his age.
You can be fully aware someone is a grown adult and at the same time pity them as just a kid, especially one being tortured by a genocidal state.
He’s old enough to be her dad. Of course she seems like a child from his perspective, if he has a child they’re likely about her age.
It’s a quote. It’s what someone said to reporters. It’s not framing
