  • I think if you hit the right dialogues talking with them it doesn’t get mad?

Most of the times it’s happened to me I can definitely see how they’re defining it as breaking the “Oath of Devotion” but the way I interpreted my characters actions and how the game interpreted them don’t line up.

I would say attacking the incredibly obvious hag who already killed those nice young lads I met earlier and has a distressed girl at her table lined up with my oath. But no I guess unless she transforms in front of me and says “I’m going to eat you” before I hit her I’m just attacking a defenseless old woman

  • Tbf sometimes your oath will break for completely indecipherable reasons. Like attacking those fake paladins that were hunting Karlach — I had to have Astarion start the fight with my character conveniently out of view.

Or if you attack the obvious hag after she makes people vanish into thin air and she does in fact turn out to be a hag. Unless you hit a couple specific dialogue flags the game is like “How dare you attack this innocent old woman!”

  • I’m around the same point in BG3 right now and was feeling the exact same way about Gale and most of the companions. Most of them are awful and I don’t understand the hate Gale gets!

We have fascist frog, christofascist, fascist with goblin characteristics, and the creep who assaults you in your sleep, and the most hated one is the guy that thinks you’re pretty cool?

I still haven’t met Halsin, Jaheira, or Minsc but so far my list of “not-shitty-companions” is Karlach, Wyll, Gale, [Large gap], Astarion, Shadowheart, Minthara, Laezel.

If Lae’zel has haters I’m among them, if she has one hater it’s me, if she has no haters I’m dead.

  • Patents should be so specific that it’s basically a joke how easy it is to get around them. Like, anything past building the exact same product to the exact specifications listed shouldn’t be patent infringement.

I should be able to build an iPhone 15 but all the components are 5% bigger so they don’t match the patent filing and it’s not infringement. For digital things, unless I straight up stole your code and assets, absolutely not.

Also patents should expire after like, 5 years, 10 at the most. Not just because I hate capitalism. Even using the explicit logic behind why patents exist, longer patent terms are harmful. You allow people to patent things to “encourage innovation” by ensuring people have the right to profit off their inventions. But after a few years that’s done, and longer terms prevent people from building on the work of people that came before.
