  • Not unless you do it the right way, i.e. the way it is done in Europe. It is basically mandatory to take vacation days every year up to a specific number. Unlimited PTO makes it so you get extra. I also have a policy of a burnout vacation - if I notice you are burned out you get sent to a mandatory paid vacation. You get to refuse once, as a hangover excuse or “I’m fine, really”. But it I notice it again after refusal, you get a choice. Either you go to vacation, or you get fired. It doesn’t go into a tally of “I need to talk to this guy, he took 80 days off this year”, I treat it as if they’d worked. Oh, and 100% paid sick leave instead of a percentage, all they need is to talk to their doctor and they put in that they are sick in the system.

The agreement about time off is you get the 25 mandated by the law, anytime, without any request beforehand, as long as it won’t make the sun explode. Instead of people requesting time off, I request time “on”, if I need to work with them, have them in a meeting or train someone.

My “off the contract” ask to them is “I’ll try to treat you as fair as I can, and ask you to do the same in return”. I did get screwed over by an employee once, but so far I can still maintain this policy

  • It is a genie. That’s exactly what it means when she says “replace all the water in the world with milk”. Genies hate people. They are malicious spirits that have been imprisoned by sorcerrers to serve them and their wishes. The only thing is that it probably isn’t going to work because they are not omnipotent and have limited power usually. Enough to “fulfill a wish” of a greedy dude and fuck them over in the process, but not enough to destroy the universe.

  • And then they rounded up officers, teachers, politicians and killed them.

You also gotta love the disonance between the Warsaw uprising - where Russians stopped on the eastern bank of thr Vistula river to wait for the Polish uprising that was launched to “welcome them to a Polish city, not a nazi one” to die out, and them saying “we went in only to help you guuuuyys”.

There is a “Polish bard”, Kaczmarski, who sang protest songs. You might even remember “Mury” - Walls, it recently got unearthed again in 2020 during the Belarus protests. Anyway, he’s got a song about a russian tank, that doesn’t understand why it isn’t fighting. It’s basically the machine spirit yearning to fulfill its purpose, watching the other bank through an empty periscope. Talking about its armor, which is heated up by the September heat and yearning to attack. Complaining about the cold engine, the engine grease stagnating and coagulating because noone sat behind the viewfinder / targetting reticle for a month. It talks about the “larynx of the barrel yearning for the taste of a projectile going through it”. But the only taste it gets is the smoke wafting over from the other bank of the river. The tank hears the screams of Poles in the headsets that have been taken off. It ask why it didn’t cross the river sprinting. It begs to be able to grab the sleek waves with its tracks. It begs to be able to “support the barricades with fire”. It doesn’t want the city, which is so close, to call its inaction “a betrayal”.

Sadly, the HQ is silent, as silent as the flowers on the bank of the river, behind which the tank lays hidden. Because a ruskie tank won’t fight for the Poles, the ruskie tank is to wait till they are all wiped out.

And when the uprising burns out in a darkened lightning, they’ll turn on the engine. They’ll wake the blood of the machine. So it could watch the city that was so close, taking over ruins and rubble without a fight.

Honestly, for anyone even remotely thinking if Russia / Soviet Union was “right” or “had a point” or “were the saviours of Europe”, just find lyrics to songs about World War 2 that talk about specific events. You will very quickly be rid of that notion.

  • So “if Europe caves to the bully, joins the side that is actively supporting its enemy that invaded a sovereign country, maybe China will see a benefit and do something countrary to their interest and work towards peace in Ukraine”. Have you even thought how your post sounds? If it is beneficial to keep the war in Ukraine going, why would they “switch sides”? The US would still be “bogged down” in Ukraine even if the EU started better relations with China. So either we would totally need to cut off Ukraine (in which case Russia wins) or China would magically do something that’s completely stupid from their POV.

  • They’re not here to see “more nuanced takes” nor they care about them. They are here to brigade posts, spread propaganda and make any discussion a pain. You can’t even imagine how often tankies tried to tell me the history of my country is fake and they know the ultimate truth about it all, way better than the people who actually lived that history.

  • I hissed at him mostly when I first got him as a foster home. He had lots of bad habits since he lived on the streets for so long. He broke those habits quickly and we have been a “hissless” home since. Sometimes we understood one another without words - he kept peeing behind a wall on the floor, I put the litterbox there and he knew what to do next.

He was so spooked initially he didn’t eat for a month and hid under the sofa. What got him out was me watching a female cat that was peeking out of her carrier and meowing at the camera (almost playing peekaboo). Though to be fair, he was exploring at night - I caught him doing it next morning when I saw pawprints on a dusty shelf, like 10cm away from my head when I was sleeping. He just didn’t eat anything (wetfood, egg yolk, dry food) which is scary when a cat does that, they need to eat each day or they get liver issues. Pheromones weren’t working. Vet said he needs exposure therapy which meant back to a cage with him. Spent hours sitting next to him watching either bird videos or some series / cartoons I was watching at the time. He still runs at the slightest rustle but he has chilled out immensly, became a complete and utter lapcat, and knows how to use voice buttons to say what he needs. My latest trick with him is asking him to turn off the lights. There are two outcomes, either he goes and turns them off, or he gets up, presses the “no” button and goes back to sleep / whatever he was doing. Both outcomes are hilarious obviously
