  • Depends on how they’re dumb. Your example is just amusing and pretty innocent - that doesn’t bother me at all. What would bug me is if it’s something that’s clearly screwing up their life. Like if they can’t hold down a job or get through basic everyday tasks without constantly fucking it up.

For me, intelligence isn’t about what you know - it’s about how you think. Can she grasp that Vietnam is an actual country once you explain it to her? If yes, then she’s not dumb - she’s just ignorant or uneducated. I can live with that. Especially with a 10/10 personality.

  • Interactions with customers was what I worried about most when starting my business, but honestly, they’re the ones reviving my faith in humanity. Too much time online makes you think average people are just assholes, but they’re the opposite.

I’ve met so many awesome people through this job. People in general are nice, polite, and considerate - it’s extremely rare that I run into someone I don’t like. I even made a friend out of this one Indian dude who doesn’t even speak my language.

Being offered food or coffee is pretty common. Some hand me free tools they no longer need. I’ve gotten a gift basket and even a hand-made Christmas card. It’s such a stark contrast to the thankless job I did for a decade before going self-employed.

Edit: With elderly couples especially, it amuses me how it has often felt like visiting grand-parents.

  • The pipe carrying water sits inside a larger protective sleeve. If it ever leaks, the water runs into that sleeve and drips out the ends onto the floor instead of soaking into the walls or structures.

You can then disconnect both ends, pull the damaged pipe out, and slide a new one in. No joints hidden behind the walls, and leaks in the middle of the pipe are super rare - you’d basically have to drill into it. The manifold above ceiling has a an access panel.
