I’ve only played Half-Life 2 and it’s good but clearly been Seinfeld-Effected by the industry in the twenty-odd years since release, to the point where I’d feel weird recommending it outside of “it’s very cheap and pretty good but nothing jaw dropping”

A ton of “puzzle box” style games recently! Quick run down:

The Room Series - GOATed, genre-defining

Doors: Paradox - Okay, with points for the aesthetic variation in the levels

Access Denied - Not great and really short

Access Denied: Escape - Pretty good, improved over the previous game

Boxes: Fragments - By the developer who did Doors, and a massive step up in every way. Might be my second favorite in the genre so far

Machinika Museum - Fun, probably my third favorite so far. Has some eurojank vibes that I enjoy

I’ve got the House of Da Vinci series to play, and after that I’ll have to move on to \more conventional escape room games–Escape Academy, Escape First Alchemist, Escape From Mystwood Mansion, and Escape Simulator

i disagree on DS2 being longer. Maybe that’s just because I’ve played it so much that I can knock out a run pretty quick but even still it’s a fraction of the size

I think it would have been better with some of that fat trimmed. For me, the experience of the map getting bigger and bigger went from “Oh, really?” to “Wow this is cool” to “OMG” and then all of the sudden “Ugh, really?” as it overstayed its welcome and I just wanted it to be done. I really do think there is something to be said for too much of a good thing

Honestly the meta is kind of annoying right now. On Vanessa you have to spec into the shield charge infinite to have a chance at winning later on the higher days, which is quite boring at this point. Hope this’ll get tuned back down soon

Other than that, might do some CK2 now that my new laptop can actually handle it. Kinda feeling like a classic tribal 879 game…

Yeah it feels arbitrary, especially given how cheap VRAM is. Common Nvidia L (not that they care given the stacks they’re making with data centers)

My card isn’t even old

It’s about 4 years old, which is pretty old for an entry tier card to be running the latest triple AAA titles. My Radeon 7770 was only three years old when The Witcher 3 came out and it couldn’t hit minimum spec. Only two years for AC: Unity but that was especially demanding

I do think now is an awkward time where we’re shifting to new tech that isn’t quite ready for prime time, but it’s never going to be until we shift to it

Also not exactly playing but watching Northernlion play a ton of The Bazaar and it looks swag as hell. Hope it comes out of beta soon because you will not catch my ass paying $30 for early access

On that note I downloaded Hearthstone for the first time in like 5 years because I remember hearing about some PvE content they had that was pretty fun, which I thought might scratch the Bazaar itch. But all these solo adventures released in 2019 are still $20??? So I played a couple normal hearthstone games and it was… fine

The vibes of Wildfrost are so good but from watching play it I think it’s just too hard for me
