  • I did see that movie but at the time I wasn’t thinking of that. This cult had jumped us on the road incapped a few party members and took off with our loot. I was truly focused on not only winning a combat against them but turning as many people as I could in the process against them. My plan did work out much better than expected. I had assumed we would still be overwhelmed but our Druid used spike growth and was hidden as a spider in the room with them so combat became very difficult for them with the guards plus our party and the spike growth causing them damage.

  • I played a Drow aberrant mind sorcerer where we came across a cult operating in the back room of a tavern and it was guarded by two thugs.

Half our party went in unarmed under the guise of being townsfolk, myself and one other party member entered the tavern shortly after and sat at a table within sight of the thugs.

After a few moments my character looked at the rogue in front of me and said go get the guards. He was like “uhhhhh” I was like tell them there’s been a murder. He was like “what are you doing I don’t understand” I’m like just go. So he leaves. I wait a few more minutes then I telepathically implanted one of the thugs with Enemies abound. It causes the target to perceive everyone as enemies. The person directly in front of of him was the other thug.

He pulled out his sword the other thug was like “Billy? (Or some other name I can’t remember) and he proceeded to gank his buddy, and as the body was sliding off his blade my party member and the town guards burst through the door, and the guards screamed stop! The thug’s attention was drawn to them and he charged them and was subsequently cut down.

The rogue only then realizing what the game plan was screamed out “there’s more of them behind that door killing our friends!” The guards and the rogue burst through the doors and a massive brawl ensued between enthralled townsfolk, cultists and our party where we managed to defeat a significantly higher level encounter than what we should have been able to if we went at it alone and the cultists were forced to flee.

I think using the law to your own ends can be a good thing if it is something your character would do. My Drow Sorc would not have engaged the law unless it was to his benefit. And that’s exactly what he did.

After the session our DM was like wow that was unexpected but also the outcome was really fun. Unfortunately a few sessions later the campaign fell apart, so I never got to find out if the actions would catch up to me or not but it was fun as hell.

If what I read is true that does sound promising, but still leaves consumers with a number of issues.

You still need to support google to get this phone, (if part of the goal is to not support companies with questionable business practices) and while GrapheneOS does look promising I still have my doubts on the user experience.

From what I have read I believe you would need to install this OS yourself on the device. That to me is more of a workaround than a solution.

The typical user isn’t going to want to install a custom OS. This isn’t a product that is readily available to consumers to purchase through conventional means as far as I can tell. (I may be wrong on that, but it doesn’t appear that I could walk into a carrier store and purchase one ready to go).

This was exactly my point, I’m not lining up for an iPhone or an android. The lack of choice is what drives me to buy apple because when the time comes for a new phone it’s one or the other and I prefer the experience on iPhone. Really I would rather not give my money to either but there are no viable alternatives. I would not criticize anyone for buying android or apple, it’s a matter of what kind of shit sandwich do you want to eat, and it’s terrible.

I’m not saying it’s perfect, but the typical user experience is vastly superior to anything android has to offer. I’m also specifically referring to phone os. Not tablets. I really don’t like apple as a company, but user experience on apple vs android phones are like night and day.

I work in IT for a school board and yeah, the support of iPads is straight shit, so I feel your pain.

I have used a number of android phones and iPhones, and I can say that the experience on an iPhone is vastly superior to anything android has to offer. Until that changes, this problem is going to continue.

Companies can keep pumping out dogshit all they want and slapping a different coat of paint on it, at the end of the day it’s still dogshit.

Someone needs to build an OS superior to apple’s that is designed exclusively and optimized for the hardware of the phone, and it seems unlikely that will ever happen. Also that fact in and of itself is the reason iPhones are and will always have a superior user experience than anything android has to offer.

I would love to see something similar that is more secure, more privacy focused, and still has as good of a user experience as an iPhone, but this is an accessibility vs security problem.

Apple has leveraged what they once touted as a safer option because they would look after the security part on behalf of the user and twisted it into a more sinister business model (or perhaps that was always the M.O.)

  • I catch myself sometimes half way through someone talking about something where I was fully paying attention for the first bit of them talking and then tuning back in for the end realizing “oh fuck” but it’s the same. My mind just wanders idk even know to what. There are times though where someone asks me a follow up question and I realize I wasn’t paying attention at all beyond the start of them talking.
