  • There are also barely any younger people. The demographics of Japan are the worst of pretty much any country and their complete adversion against anyone not Japanese is not helping. They are projected to have 10-20 million people LESS within the next 20 years. The villages and small towns are already emptying, everyone is old as fuck and their economy is stagnating for 30 years.

The doomsday clock is ticking for all of us, but Japan really does a speedrun of societal collapse. More quite and polite than in the US or elsewhere. But thorough and devastating nonetheless.

    …Hex Bear? Like the animal?

Yes Snake. Your contact in Pakistan. Named after a radical communist resistance group in Karachi. It got destroyed after repeated ideological struggle sessions involving cats, but it’s exceptional meme skills still inspire the common people to this day

  • I think that’s a good sign of taste though. Games are so incredibly diverse, even the ones that reach the peak of their genre can be just eh for others.

I’ll never finish Witcher 3 because that’s just too much stuff for my little adhd brain. Ghost of Tsushima was a wonderful 2 hours of ogling at the most beautiful wind-swept grass fields I’ve ever seen and I’ll never touch it again.

There is probably fantastic shmups or fighting games that I will never touch. But I gladly bang my head for 5 hours against the next Gulgagram, Darkblood Impaler From Soft throws at me and defend the 15 ms reaction window I have to dodge his instant kill grab.

  • Because I like to live on a habitable planet more than I like your ability to prompt a defective and stylisticly pathetic essay for your college class.

Scientists have estimated that the power requirements of data centers in North America increased from 2,688 megawatts at the end of 2022 to 5,341 megawatts at the end of 2023, partly driven by the demands of generative AI. Globally, the electricity consumption of data centers rose to 460 terawatt-hours in 2022. This would have made data centers the 11th largest electricity consumer in the world, between the nations of Saudi Arabia (371 terawatt-hours) and France (463 terawatt-hours), according to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

By 2026, the electricity consumption of data centers is expected to approach 1,050 terawatt-hours (which would bump data centers up to fifth place on the global list, between Japan and Russia).

If your phone could do the ai trash, it would still be morally bankrupt and devoid of any humanity. But it’s done on 5 gpus that eat as much energy as your entire household.

The real usefulness of ai technology is probably limited to 1% of what it is now. Signal processing, protein folding, translation and transcription are all fine and well. But it is 99% spam and so I’ll judge the technology on that.

  • People here focus a lot on the fighting and difficulty.

Just so you know, it’s also absolutely gorgeous to look at and the game feel is incredibly tight and responsive. If you just run around in it for an hour or two, but don’t have the patience for getting really good a tapping your shoulder button, you probably still have a good time.

  • The only one that was on par so far was Nine Sols. It has the most insane final boss I’ve ever seen and the only bossfight I had to grind harder than Father Owl. Probably took me 8+ hours over three days. After beating it, i felt like I could parry bullets in real life if just tried a little harder. Gorgeous and deeply engaging game too.

  • First off: Congratulations on getting diagnosed. It’s a huge step and 18 is a really nice timing. Untreated ADHD in adults can be really crippling, because all the supporting structures like school and family break away and suddenly you realize that managing your own time schedule and house hold is really fucking hard. So good job 👍

Second: You took 30 mg of Elvanse/LDX for the first time and you felt nothing? That’s… impressive, honestly. Methylphenidate Non Responder are fairly known, but usually that amount of dexamphetamine does something to the human body. From your age I’d guess you are not a regular user of recreational amphetamines and have built a massive tolerance…

I also started with 30 mg Elvanse and was pretty seriously zoned in, deep focus, elevated mood, highly awake, loss of appetite and a very revelatory feeling, that I could finally tackle all the bullshit that I had avoided, delayed, ignored and forgotten. For me, the 30 mg were honestly too much. Over the last year I’ve built a tolerance and am now taking 40-70mg daily, depending on the challenges of the day.

Still I wouldn’t worry. No effect also means no bad side effects. Adjusting the dosage is entirely normal in the beginning and something your psychiatrist should do anyway. The therapeutic dosage goes up to 70 mg and there are edge cases with even higher doses. There is also methylphenidate (Ritalin, MPH, etc) and Atomotexetin. But for now, just stick with what you got.

Dealing with ADHD is a marathon, not a sprint. You’ve just started, so take the days as they come and trust your feelings above all else. If it works, you’ll know. And if not keep at it.

Also check out /c/neurodiverse, there are a lot of good posts and ADHD experiences shared.

  • Eradication is really hard. If you just kill mosquitoes in a certain area, what’s gonna stop them from coming back? You’re just not gonna get all of them.

This way you introduce a mutation that can actually propagate through the gene pool, disabling the undesired trait for future generations. It’s also highly selective, so that you don’t accidentally get rid of other species or poison an area with pesticides.

Also living beings have no “purpose”. They fill an evolutionary niche and shape the ecological system around them. The piss off us, so we play a little god, but nature has no opinions or morals whatsoever.
