I think that this is shortsighted. Imagine a scenario in which a person might use a Nazi salute in public: it is unlikely that it would be used by a single person just out doing their normal routine. Consider the recent context of Elon Musk, who was at a very large political gathering and was expecting people to respond in kind with their own salutes.

Do you want more visible Nazis? They show up when you summon them. They don’t go away when you outlaw their symbols, but they do find it less appealing to promote themselves online or have rallies to recruit more would-be Nazis. I understand your hesitance to let the state do these things, it’s a large part of the reason why I don’t believe in capital punishment. But if the state doesn’t have the power to stop this peacefully, the next step (no matter what “side” is doing it) is violence.

Sorry, are you really saying that a Nazi salute is a simple gesture and not overt hate speech against racialized groups? That a Nazi rally in a public place is totally cool and a reasonable expression of political ideology in a democratic society?

That is not a centrist position, it’s a pro-Nazi position. Nazis are not acceptable in public. If a Nazi wants to salute up and down the street, they should be prepared for people to take it as it is (an act of hate speech). In some countries that’s not a crime, but it sure is in my country and, soon, Australia too.

Punishing Nazis for attempting to rally support from the wider public is dystopian? I definitely don’t want to live in your perfect society.

That’s what my parents told me when I said I was likely to kill myself without hormones. Needless to say, I got hormones and I am still here, but I will never get back the time I lost and I will never have the childhood socialization that I missed. I will never see my parents the same.

It haunts me a lot that I couldn’t have started at 15 because my parents wanted me to be “normal” and for them to not have hard conversations. This is also the reason they didn’t want me on anti-depressants even though I was massively depressed.

All this to say that maybe you should listen to doctors and trans people about why these things are necessary. Puberty blockers aren’t even permanent.

I have everything containerized (Podman) on my Debian PC and use Diun to check for updates and send notifications to a Discord server that I monitor. I do all of my updates manually so I don’t update unless I have time to troubleshoot; if it breaks I still have the configs and data so I can delete the container and start over.

I also do monthly backups to cold storage (yeah, they should be weekly/biweekly but it’s just personal data that I’m okay with losing). I don’t use a RAID config or BTFS/ZFS like some do, so it’s pretty easy to just set it and forget it. It really depends on what you’re trying to do, how bulletproof it needs to be, and how you like to organize things.

I’m willing to bet that the average Apex player is not a big enough nerd to even install Mint, the friendliest of distros, to cheat in the game. Linux accounts for what, ~2.5% of Steam users total? Come on.

Did they check if they have a state capitol? They probably don’t need to if their country doesn’t have states.

At least a few years. I switched to Linux a year ago and that was a huge consideration for me when choosing Debian over Ubuntu.

Notice how I didn’t say murder, I said killed. That can easily happen in detention facilities due to neglect and lack of medical care, especially as it gets crammed full of too many people. I’m not saying there’s no possibility that there will be murders, but I definitively did not say murder in my last comment because no, it is not my belief that Trump is planning to exterminate migrants at this current point in time. The labour and torture is probably imminent though, Guantanamo is pretty famous for it.

The unwritten implication is that they will be used for slave labour, tortured, and/or killed. It really depends on how fascist and violent Trump wants it to get. Guantanamo Bay is not outfitted for mass detention, so you connect the dots.

I used to, when I had fun neighbours my age that I made through an online Buy Nothing group. If you just start indulging in social groups related to your interests, you’re bound to meet people. It’s up to you if you want to socialize more with those people.

Unfortunately, no one will force you to hang out with them (except red flag weirdos), so a lot of the effort needs to come from you. If you get flaked on/deprioritized/ignored/ghosted more than once or twice, that’s the cue to move on and try someone else so you don’t get your hopes up.

People not eating vegetables or not drinking an optimal amount of water doesn’t kill them. You know what kills people? Racialized violence that’s normalized by society.
