I’d love to drive one of these and get really good at it. There’s something about driving huge vehicles that I really like.

If there was a bus company near me that let you have fixed shifts, maybe I’d do it. But in the EU, bus drivers need to renew their licence every five years, and as far as I know, that includes a physical exam (easy), an eye exam (a little colour blind, so that might be an issue), and being diagnosed with depression can be an issue, too. I’m thinking about driving trucks, though, because they aren’t as strict about colour blindness (I’m not really colour blind because I can see colours, I just answer most of the Ishihara test questions wrong) and they don’t ask you about your mental health.

That’s why I didn’t become a bus driver myself. I don’t like rotas. I like to know what hours I’m working, week after week.

It’s why I’m one of few employees at my current employer who has fixed hours. I negotiated for it in lieu of promotion (which I didn’t want anyway - more responsibility without more pay, no thanks)
