The other formula is to just make the game because you have an interesting story and/or an interesting mechanic rather than as a pay to play skinner box. Baldurs Gate 3 and Expedition 33 both did that. Neither had DLC or loot boxes or really anything extra you could buy other than special edition stuff. They were both made because the team had a story to tell and mechanics to explore.

AAA companies will still never learn these lessons because they don’t need to because pay to play skinner boxes make them more money, but gamers can at least learn the lessons and stop expecting great AAA experiences

The 3rd formula is to make a game with 3 in the title, and the more 3s you have the more likely you are to win an award

Half-Life 3 confirmed. (But seriously whatever form it takes if it ever comes out will break the internet)

Will it break the internet? Half Life 2 came out, what, 20-something years ago? Half Life 1 nearly 30 years ago? There’s a lot of rapidly aging Zoomers out there who have never even heard of Half Life, nevermind the gen alpha teens who consider Zelda BotW to be nostalgic and retro.
